CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport
overall

Summary
With 1,399 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,445.00, 30.5% of 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
60.8% of 2017 Santa Fe Sport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport stands out as a well-rounded midsize SUV that combines good looks, a comfortable interior, a roomy cargo area, and an affordable price. It is also presented as safe, technologically advanced, quick, and built in the U.S.A., which gives it a broader appeal than its value-oriented pricing might suggest.
That mix makes it easy to see why it would attract shoppers who want a practical family vehicle without giving up comfort or features. The available third-row-seat solution mentioned in the source also points to a version of the Santa Fe lineup for buyers who need more seating and cargo flexibility. At the same time, the emphasis on the Sport’s cargo space suggests that it is strongest as a comfortable, versatile two-row SUV rather than a maximum-space choice.

Great turning radius, good visibility, and easy to drive. I shoveled the car out of 3+ feet of snow and it started right up! Got my family out of the extreme weather comfortably and safely.

Love this car. It has everything you could want. It dries very comfortably and smooth, the breaking is awesome, and the surround camera view is such a helper. The Seats in the back lay down almost completely flat, provide a great space to pack or go camping, and the storage compartments in the trunk are perfect. Everything fits like a puzzle that’s easy to solve.

OMG, I am in love with my new car. I have luxury features I didnt even know I needed; a heated steering wheel is an absolute necessity at this point. I love the luxury features in this mid size family SUV, heated and cooled seats, with read heated seats that are also adjustable; my kids love to recline. Apple and Android car play Hyundai did not discriminate. Panoramic moonroof, 360 camera, the navigation view appears as an actual map, and the ride is so incredible smooth I love to drive this baby in sport. There is so much to say about this vehicle great buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport?
At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage or heavily optioned example. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific vehicle you’re looking at.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The standard Santa Fe Sport is a 2-row, 5-passenger crossover SUV, while the larger Santa Fe is a separate 3-row model. The Sport’s cabin is described as attractive but visually busy, and the test vehicle’s upscale equipment shows that higher trims can add a more premium feel.
- Powertrain: Base versions use a 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, while upgraded versions get a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is available, and the turbo setup is the one that gives the SUV its stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, dynamic headlights, and a multi-view camera system. Blue Link also adds SOS emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, and teen-driver alerts.
- Infotainment: Navigation-equipped versions get an 8-inch touchscreen, while models without navigation use a 7-inch screen. Both systems include Android Auto, but not Apple CarPlay, and Blue Link subscription services are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 21.5 mpg in mixed driving, and the expert notes that this fell short of the EPA estimate of 23 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport trim should I buy?
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe Sport 2.0T.
Here's the short version:
- Santa Fe Sport: This is the value-oriented choice if you want the standard 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and a practical two-row SUV without paying for the turbo upgrade. It makes the most sense if you care more about affordability and everyday usefulness than extra punch.
- Santa Fe Sport 2.0T: This is the best-value trim if you want the stronger 240-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder and the more confident acceleration that comes with it. The expert test vehicle was a 2.0T with the Ultimate Package, which shows how far this trim can be taken if you want a more upscale, better-equipped version.
For safety, the model is described as offering a long list of driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies, and the 2017 updates helped it earn a Top Safety Pick+ rating.

Should I buy a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 update brought revised styling, new infotainment systems, and a long list of new driver-assistance and safety technologies.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of value, safety, and features, the 2017 is the smart target year to shop. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still find attractive deals, but you should be selective about history and condition because not every listing will be a clean, problem-free example.
