overall

Summary
With 1,418 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,479.00, 32.3% of 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport stands out as a well-rounded midsize SUV that combines good looks, a comfortable interior, a roomy cargo area, and an affordable price. It is also presented as safe, technologically advanced, quick, and built in the U.S.A., which gives it a broader appeal than its value-oriented pricing might suggest.
That mix makes it easy to see why it would attract shoppers who want a practical family vehicle without giving up comfort or features. The available third-row-seat solution mentioned in the source also points to a version of the Santa Fe lineup for buyers who need more seating and cargo flexibility. At the same time, the emphasis on the Sport’s cargo space suggests that it is strongest as a comfortable, versatile two-row SUV rather than a maximum-space choice.

Great turning radius, good visibility, and easy to drive. I shoveled the car out of 3+ feet of snow and it started right up! Got my family out of the extreme weather comfortably and safely.

Love this car. It has everything you could want. It dries very comfortably and smooth, the breaking is awesome, and the surround camera view is such a helper. The Seats in the back lay down almost completely flat, provide a great space to pack or go camping, and the storage compartments in the trunk are perfect. Everything fits like a puzzle that’s easy to solve.

OMG, I am in love with my new car. I have luxury features I didnt even know I needed; a heated steering wheel is an absolute necessity at this point. I love the luxury features in this mid size family SUV, heated and cooled seats, with read heated seats that are also adjustable; my kids love to recline. Apple and Android car play Hyundai did not discriminate. Panoramic moonroof, 360 camera, the navigation view appears as an actual map, and the ride is so incredible smooth I love to drive this baby in sport. There is so much to say about this vehicle great buy.

The driving impressions also point to secure, trustworthy dynamics, which supports the sense that it is built to be dependable over time. What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport?
At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on condition details that matter in a family crossover: interior wear, cargo-area use, tire condition, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features still work properly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Santa Fe Sport is offered as a 2-row, 5-passenger crossover SUV with a choice between a 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, and the higher-spec test vehicle described in the source adds a more upscale feel with nearly all options. The base setup is the one most likely to leave you wanting more equipment, so compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The turbo version is the one that delivers the brisk acceleration and stronger passing power described in the source.
- Safety package: The SUV includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, dynamic headlights, and a multi-view camera system. Blue Link also adds SOS emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, and teen-driver alerts.
- Infotainment: Versions with navigation get an 8-inch touchscreen, while models without navigation use a 7-inch screen. Both systems include Android Auto, but not Apple CarPlay, and Blue Link subscription services are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 21.5 mpg on the reviewer’s loop, and the source says that fell short of the EPA’s 23 mpg combined estimate.
Which 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport trim should I buy?
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe Sport 2.0T.
Here's the short version:
- Santa Fe Sport: This is the trim to start with if you want the more affordable entry point and are mainly focused on comfort, cargo space, and value. It uses the 4-cylinder engine, and it makes the most sense if you do not need the extra punch of the turbo model.
- Santa Fe Sport 2.0T: This is the better choice if you want the stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. It suits you best if you care more about brisk acceleration, easier passing, and a more confident feel when the SUV is loaded up.
The safety content highlights a broad suite of driver-assistance features, so whichever trim you choose, make sure the specific listing includes the equipment you want.

What is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's resale value?
The current average of $11,469 sits slightly below last year's $12,704.
That decline suggests the model has become more affordable for buyers, which can help you if you are shopping now but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, a lower entry price can support demand from value-focused shoppers, especially when the SUV still offers strong comfort, safety, and features.
