Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.9/5 user-rated truck with an expert rating of 7.5/10. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions like the under-bed trunk. That lines up well with the Ridgeline’s use case as a truck that feels carlike, especially if you want everyday refinement and utility without the usual truck roughness.

The market also shows 33.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that Honda’s approach delivers a truck that feels entirely like a car, which supports the sense that it should be easy to count on for regular use.

Honda Sensing adds a layer of driver assistance that can help reduce stress in daily driving, and the truck’s carlike road manners reinforce its long-term appeal for used buyers.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about outright toughness and more about whether the truck’s condition and equipment match your expectations for a premium-feeling, lightly used pickup.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, cabin condition, and any signs of prior repair. Because this truck is valued for comfort and practical features, you’ll want to make sure the ride quality, interior wear, and cargo-area functionality still feel as good as advertised.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with high-quality materials and expressive design. Base-trim shoppers should pay attention to how much of the comfort and convenience equipment they’re giving up, since the truck’s appeal is tied closely to its carlike feel and everyday usability.
• Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, while all-wheel drive is optional on most trims and standard on the RTL-E and Black Edition.
• Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available, but those features are restricted to top trims.
• Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic and pinch-to-zoom, voice recognition, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is EPA-rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD drops to 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.

Here's the short version:

• RT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core formula: the V6, the Crew cab layout, and the truck’s unusual carlike character. It makes sense if you want the basic experience at the lowest price, but you should expect fewer convenience and safety extras than the higher trims.
• RTS: This trim adds more equipment while staying closer to the lower end of the lineup, so it’s a sensible step up if you want a better balance of value and comfort. It should appeal to buyers who want the Ridgeline’s everyday usefulness without stretching too far up the price ladder.
• Sport: This trim is aimed at shoppers who want a more styled version of the Ridgeline without moving into the upper luxury-oriented trims. It’s a good fit if you care about appearance and still want the same core truck hardware.
• RTL: This is the trim where the Ridgeline starts to feel more fully equipped for daily use, making it a strong middle-ground choice. If you want the best-value blend of comfort, features, and price, this is the trim to focus on first.
• RTL-T: This trim builds on the RTL with more equipment and is a logical choice if you want a richer feature set without jumping all the way to the top trims. It suits buyers who want more convenience and tech while staying below the premium end of the range.
• RTL-E: This is one of the top trims, and AWD is standard here. It’s the right pick if you want the most complete version of the Ridgeline’s comfort and capability mix, especially if you value the available safety and convenience upgrades.
• Black Edition: This is the loaded trim, and it adds the most upscale presentation and equipment. It’s the best fit if you want the most premium Ridgeline experience and are willing to pay for it.

Honda Sensing is restricted to top trims, so if advanced driver assistance matters to you, make sure you shop accordingly.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can find value if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 504 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.66% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $18,554, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?

The current average of $18,554 sits slightly below last year's $19,877.

That tells you the market has moved in a buyer-friendly direction, which can help you if you’re shopping now but may pressure future resale if prices continue to soften. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation when it’s time to sell.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?

The 2017 Honda Ridgeline has not yet been crash-tested, but Honda expects a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available, and LaneWatch provides a live video feed of the right-side blind spot when the blinker is engaged.

Those features are restricted to top trims, so safety-minded shoppers should verify equipment carefully before buying.

Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.66% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 Ridgeline stands out because it is the industry’s only unibody pickup, giving you a truck that feels entirely like a car.

The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s distinctive carlike truck formula and you find a clean example at a strong price, the 2017 is a smart buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping listings closely and compare condition, equipment, and accident history before deciding.
