CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Honda Ridgeline
overall

Summary
With 37 currently listed for sale near Kansas City, MO and an average price of $19,770, 29.7% of 2017 Honda Ridgelines for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Honda Ridgeline 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
81.1% of 2017 Ridgeline models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline stands out because it is the industry’s only unibody pickup, which makes it one of the most unusual light-duty trucks on sale. Honda’s own description also frames it as a pickup that feels like a car, with the summary calling it an open-faced minivan that hauls lots of stuff while still driving with a carlike character. That unusual formula is the Ridgeline’s main appeal: it is aimed at buyers who want truck usefulness without giving up the comfort and familiarity of a passenger vehicle.
What makes the 2017 model especially distinctive is that Honda presents it as an all-new Ridgeline, underscoring that this version is meant to show how the company can make a seemingly foreign concept work. Owners’ feedback lines up with that idea, with praise for its smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions such as the under-bed trunk. The main drawback mentioned is that some drivers think it is priced too high compared with other trucks, and some would like more advanced technology in the entertainment system.

We were looking for a truck for light hauling. Not for off-road. And I didn’t want to truck that looked all tricked out and masculine. I wanted a smooth ride, and a functional truck. We ruled out other midsize trucks because they rode like a truck. And as a passenger, the ride was unsettling. I prefer a ride like butter. Then we found the Honda Ridgeline. Because it is built different than the other midsize trucks, basically a truck body or an SUV base, it rides as smooth as silk. It doesn’t look like I’m trying to be young, or masculine or tough. It’s a classy looking little truck. The electronics inside blow me away. All of the safety features, and the space inside the backseat. It was exactly what we were looking for. I just didn’t know it existed until I found the Ridgeline.

Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Honda Ridgeline earns 4.88/5 from owners and 7.5/10 from experts. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.
Owners consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, spacious interior, and practical cargo solutions, including the under-bed trunk. That lines up with Honda’s positioning of this truck as a carlike pickup for buyers who want utility without giving up everyday comfort and familiarity. If that’s your use case, the Ridgeline fits especially well.
The market also shows 27.3% good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with repeated praise for the Ridgeline’s smooth, comfortable, and practical character. The expert review also emphasizes that Honda’s unusual pickup formula works well in daily use, which supports the idea that this is a truck you can count on for regular driving and family duty.
Honda also includes a strong standard equipment set, and the available Honda Sensing suite adds more confidence for long-term ownership. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the truck’s basic concept and more about finding one that has been maintained well and not overused for towing or hard-duty work.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or heavy hauling. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, interior wear, and signs of repair quality, since accident history matters more when you’re shopping a used truck with a relatively small pool of listings.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Ridgeline comes only as a 4-door Crew cab with a 5-foot, 4-inch bed, and the cabin is described as upscale with soft-touch materials in the places you use most. Higher trims add more premium touches, while the base setup is more straightforward.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque paired with a 6-speed automatic. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional on most trims.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available, and LaneWatch is also available on top trims.
- Infotainment: The truck uses an 8-inch touchscreen with HondaLink, reconfigurable tiles, Garmin navigation with live traffic, pinch-to-zoom, and available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The FWD version is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, while AWD drops to 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Which 2017 Honda Ridgeline trim should I buy?
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline is offered in 7 trim levels: RT, RTS, Sport, RTL, RTL-T, RTL-E, Black Edition.
Here's the short version:
- RT: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Ridgeline’s core strengths without the higher price of the upper trims. It makes the most sense if you want the truck’s comfort and utility first and foremost.
- RTS: This trim adds a more polished feel while staying below the higher-content versions. It’s a sensible step up if you want a better-equipped daily driver without stretching too far.
- Sport: This trim is aimed at buyers who want a more distinctive look while keeping the same basic Ridgeline formula. It’s a good fit if style matters, but it is not the value leader.
- RTL: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it moves you into a more upscale experience without jumping all the way to the top end. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, start here.
- RTL-T: This trim adds more convenience and tech-oriented appeal, making it a stronger choice if you want a more modern-feeling truck.
- RTL-E: This is where the Ridgeline becomes especially well equipped, and AWD is standard here. It’s a strong pick if you want more capability and a fuller feature set.
- Black Edition: This is the most fully loaded version, with the most premium presentation and the richest equipment mix. Choose it if you want the top trim and are willing to pay for it.
Honda Sensing is included on the truck and adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is available on top trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Honda Ridgeline?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.
- Deal availability: 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 461 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $18,778, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline's resale value?
The current average of $19,238 sits slightly below last year's $19,896.
That softer pricing suggests the Ridgeline has become a bit more buyer-friendly in the used market, which can help you if you’re shopping now. For a future seller, it means you should expect pricing pressure unless your truck is especially clean, well maintained, and equipped with desirable features.
The good news is that the Ridgeline’s strong owner satisfaction and practical reputation help support demand. Trucks that deliver comfort, utility, and a positive ownership experience tend to stay appealing to used buyers over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Honda Ridgeline safe?
The 2017 Honda Ridgeline has not yet been crash-tested, but Honda expects a five-star crash-test rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the main driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, auto-braking, lane-keep assist, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available, and LaneWatch is offered on top trims. That means the safety story is strong, but some of the more advanced features are not standard across the lineup.
Should I buy a 2017 Honda Ridgeline or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 27.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 model is presented as an all-new Ridgeline, with Honda emphasizing its carlike pickup formula and practical cargo solutions.
The bottom line: If you want the Ridgeline’s unusual blend of comfort, utility, and everyday drivability, the 2017 is a strong choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should compare listings carefully and focus on condition, accident history, and equipment level before deciding whether to buy this year or wait for a better-equipped or better-priced example.
