How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD cost?

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD stands out as a heavy-duty pickup built for serious work, with towing and payload capability that puts it in a different world from ordinary full-size trucks. It also brings a more refined ride and handling balance than earlier versions, along with a softer and quieter ride and responsive handling for a truck of this size.

For buyers who need a truck that can do genuinely heavy-duty work, it offers a strong combination of capability, technology, and durability. The tradeoff is that the cabin can feel basic compared with some rivals, and fuel economy is only average.

With 26.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is described as a durable workhorse with a strong combination of reliability and serious hauling ability. It was built to handle demanding use, and the available diesel powertrain was the best choice for maximum towing brawn.

That said, this is still a heavy-duty truck, so long-term ownership risk rises if previous owners used it hard or skipped maintenance. You should expect condition and service history to matter a lot more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and focus on any signs of prior collision repair, especially on a truck that may have been used for towing or hauling. A thorough pre-purchase inspection should pay close attention to the frame, suspension, brakes, drivetrain, and signs of heavy-duty wear. Condition matters a lot here, so prioritize well-documented maintenance and clean mechanical presentation over cosmetic shine.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

This looks like a moderate market where selective buyers can still find value if they shop carefully.

• Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 454 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.68% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 65.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,437, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $34,946 sits slightly below last year's $35,544.

That tells you the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale upside if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key will be keeping the truck in strong condition and documenting maintenance, because heavy-duty trucks tend to hold value best when they present as well cared for and ready to work. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger hit later.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 65.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.68% compared with last year.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of capability, modern features, and current pricing, the 2017 is a sensible primary target. If you're especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but you should still prioritize condition, history, and maintenance records over chasing the lowest sticker price.
