CarGurus Analysis: 2017 BMW 7 Series

Summary
With 79 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $20,380.00, 17.7% of 2017 BMW 7 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 BMW 7 Series 4.5 / 5 stars.
50.6% of 2017 BMW 7 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 BMW 7 Series stands out as a flagship luxury sedan that blends advanced technology with a distinctly sporting character. BMW’s 7 Series has long been associated with innovation, and this generation continued that tradition with a passenger cell made of carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer, tensile steel, and aluminum, helping it shed 88 pounds. It also brought a larger kidney grille, grille shutters to improve airflow and aerodynamics, and four-wheel steering, along with an upgraded iDrive system that added gesture controls and touch-screen capability.
For buyers, the appeal also comes from the breadth of powertrains. The 2017 model year offered a 325hp 3.0-liter turbo inline-six, a 450hp 4.4-liter turbo V8, and a plug-in hybrid with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four and electric motor for a combined 325hp. It also had a standard rear-view camera, parking sensors, ambient lighting, and available driver assistance features, while the cabin could be equipped with massaging rear seats and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality. Owners commonly praise the luxurious feel, smooth ride, spacious interior, and strong performance.
There are tradeoffs, though. The 2017 BMW 7 Series could be expensive to maintain, and its options list was costly. It also carried a poor turning circle, which is worth keeping in mind for a large sedan. Even so, its combination of comfort, technology, and power makes it a distinctive choice among used luxury flagships.

The 7 is here to stay for a long time. A chauffer driven bmw was a dream for a long time before being coveted enough to overrule the long wheelbase sedan class. The extended leg room and the elegant design space yields first-class comfort for passengers. The engine options are quiet and refined. The Audi a8 and the Mercedes E class. BM offers 3 years of complimentary service as standard. Its a great car to be had. Just dont expect your friends and family to appreciate it all that much.

Yes — the 4.5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise the luxurious experience, powerful performance, and impressive features, and they also highlight the smooth ride and spacious interior. For you, that means this model year fits especially well if you want a flagship sedan that emphasizes comfort, technology, and a sporty feel. With 23.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 BMW 7 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the smooth ride and advanced safety technology. At the same time, some reviewers mention high maintenance costs, so long-term ownership risk is less about basic satisfaction and more about budgeting carefully for upkeep.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 BMW 7 Series?
At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury sedan where repair costs can climb quickly. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s features and systems work as expected.

What is the 2017 BMW 7 Series's resale value?
The current average of $19,901 sits slightly below last year's $21,938.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy well, keep the car in strong condition, and avoid overpaying for options that may not return their cost later. Strong owner satisfaction can help support demand when it is time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 BMW 7 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 23.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.29% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want a flagship luxury sedan with strong owner approval, a softer price than last year, and enough inventory to compare examples carefully. If you are especially price-sensitive, a nearby year may be worth considering, but the 2017 remains the better fit when you want a balance of value, comfort, and buyer interest.
