CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia
overall

Summary
With 235 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,301, 29.8% of 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
67.7% of 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia stands out as the return of an Italian sport sedan to the U.S. after nearly 30 years, and that alone gives it a special place among used luxury sedans. Its appeal is rooted in the way it drives: the chassis is described as communicative, the steering as unbelievably direct, and the engine as deliciously exotic. Together, those traits make the Giulia feel focused and distinctive rather than merely competent.
That character is also what makes it attractive to buyers looking for something more engaging than the usual luxury sedan formula. The car’s driving experience is the main draw, and owners echo that sentiment by praising its athletic handling, powerful performance, and luxury feel. At the same time, the Giulia is not presented as flawless; some owners mention small fit-and-finish issues and more frequent service needs, which suggests that its emotional appeal may come with a few ownership compromises.

I think the car value was priced pretty decently was able to negotiate a little bit off of it, which helped go ahead and decide to purchase it. Only thing the car really was missing is just CarPlay for the most part. That was it. Every other thing is stuff that I can do on the side later on. Definitely will compare it to one of the upper Alfa Romeo Giulia right before the Quadrifoglio with the interior inside and everything!

Absolutely loved this vehicle! Easily the most agile, reactive and fun-spirited vehicle I’ve driven! The AWD model provides excellent handling in any and all conditions I would even say comparable if not better than Audi’s very own Quattro models! The only complaint I had would be the tedious 10k mile services needing to be done every 10,000 miles. Even still the Alfa Dealerships I have dealt with have been extremely pleasant!

The Giulia also stands out for its engaging driving character and distinctive Italian personality, which makes it appealing if you want something more expressive than a typical luxury sedan. In use-case terms, it fits you best if you value driving enjoyment and style over a purely conventional commuter experience.
The market reflects that appeal, with 30.4% of listings priced as good or great deals.
Is the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that feels enjoyable and, in many cases, dependable enough to inspire strong loyalty. The same summary also highlights that owners often describe it as one of the most enjoyable cars they've driven, which suggests the Giulia can deliver a rewarding ownership experience when it’s working as intended. The expert notes also emphasize that the Giulia’s character is compelling enough to make it worth a look if you’re willing to take a risk on something new.
The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that some owners mention small fit-and-finish issues and more frequent service needs, so you should budget for a more attentive ownership experience than you might expect from a mainstream sedan.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia?
At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a car with a lower price or higher mileage. Focus on body condition, panel alignment, interior wear, and signs of inconsistent maintenance, since the ownership story here suggests that small issues can matter more than they might on a more conventional sedan.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Giulia Ti adds access to unique packages like the Ti Performance package, which brings the adaptive suspension and mechanical limited-slip differential of the Quadrifoglio. That makes it the better-value choice if you want a more capable setup without jumping all the way to the top model.
- Powertrain: The base Giulia and Giulia Ti use a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 280 hp and 306 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic. The Quadrifoglio steps up to a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 with 505 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
- Infotainment: The interface is described as awkward and occasionally tedious, and it does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 24 mpg city and 33 highway, with a combined rating of 27. The Quadrifoglio is rated at 17 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined.
Which 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia trim should I buy?
The 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia is offered in 3 trim levels: Giulia, Giulia Ti, Quadrifoglio.
Here's the short version:
- Giulia: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the core Giulia experience: rear-wheel drive, leather, and the 280-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter engine. If you want the most affordable way into the car’s steering and chassis character, this is the one to start with.
- Giulia Ti: This is the best-value trim if you want a more complete version of the car without going all the way to the Quadrifoglio. It opens the door to the Ti Performance package, which adds the adaptive suspension and mechanical limited-slip differential, making it the smart pick for enthusiasts who want more capability.
- Quadrifoglio: This is the full-performance model, with the 505-hp twin-turbo V6 and the most dramatic driving experience in the lineup. Choose it if you want the most exotic engine and the most serious performance character.
The safety content notes that optional packages can outfit the Quadrifoglio with additional modern autonomous and passive safety systems and features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find opportunities.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 227 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.18% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 67.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,274, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia's resale value?
The current average of $13,274 sits slightly below last year's $14,148.
That price movement suggests the Giulia has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you purchase near the lower end of the range and keep the car well maintained, you may be better positioned than someone who pays closer to the high end. The model’s distinctive character can support demand, but condition and service history will matter a lot when it’s time to resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Giulia comes standard with front, front-side, rear-side, rear-head, and rear body airbags, which gives it a strong passive-safety foundation. Optional packages can add modern autonomous and passive safety systems and features, but the base car’s safety story is still centered on its standard airbag coverage and available driver-assistance equipment. One caveat is that neither NHTSA nor IIHS has evaluated the Giulia, so you won’t get a U.S. crash-test result to lean on here.
Should I buy a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.18% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 stands out as the return of an Alfa Romeo sport sedan to the U.S. after nearly 30 years, and its communicative chassis and unbelievably direct steering make it especially distinctive.
The bottom line: If you want the most characterful and engaging version of the Giulia’s early run, the 2017 is the one to focus on. If you’re more price-sensitive, shop carefully for a well-kept example and prioritize condition, service history, and the trim that best matches your driving goals.
