CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class
Summary
With 1,779 currently listed for sale and an average price of $13,901, 33.4% of 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class 4.62 / 5 stars.

Why it stands out
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class stands out for bringing a more upscale, S-Class-inspired feel to the compact luxury segment while keeping the traditional rear-wheel-drive layout that has long defined the model. For this generation, Mercedes gave the car a pseudo fastback shape and dramatic front and rear styling, and the sedan was also lighter than before. Buyers could choose from sedan, coupe, and cabriolet body styles, which gave the C-Class a broader appeal than many rivals.
The 2016 model year also offered a strong mix of performance and luxury. The sedan lineup included the C 300 with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque, and the C 400 with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 making 329 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. At the top of the range was the AMG C 63 with a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 making 469 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque, while the C 63 S delivered 503 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Inside, the cabin leaned heavily into premium materials and design, with finer trim, a 7-inch touchscreen, and multiple control methods, though the back seat is small and the trunk is modest for the class.
For shoppers, the 2016 C-Class is appealing because it combines luxury-car polish, strong available performance, and a relatively attainable used price. It also offers useful safety equipment, including standard forward automatic emergency braking and daytime running lights, while additional driver-assist features were available. The tradeoffs are worth noting: the ride can be harsh at times, the tech can feel complex, and this generation does not have the best reliability record, with owner complaints often centered on electrical issues and infotainment or display-screen problems.

| Year-Round High | $15,330 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,333 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.07% |

There are 1,777 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class a good car?
Yes — the 4.62/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction. Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, impressive performance, and attractive design, and many also like the technology features. For you, that means this model makes the most sense if you want a compact luxury car with a premium cabin and a more upscale personality than many rivals. With 32.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 4.62/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a car that can feel dependable and trouble-free when it’s been maintained well, with some drivers appreciating its long-term appeal and strong overall ownership experience. At the same time, you should pay close attention to signs of electrical or infotainment issues, since those concerns can affect long-term ownership risk for used buyers.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can confirm accident records, title status, and service history before you commit. Then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, with extra attention to electronics, infotainment behavior, and any signs of vibration or uneven operation. If possible, focus on overall condition and maintenance documentation rather than just mileage, since that can tell you more about how the car was treated.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,777 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,877, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class's resale value?
The current average of $13,942 sits slightly below last year's $15,333.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point. If you plan to resell later, the current trend means your upside may depend more on condition, mileage, and maintenance history than on broad market appreciation. Well-kept examples should still hold appeal because shoppers continue to value the model’s premium image and strong feature set.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.62/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2016 Mercedes-Benz C-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.62/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $17,640, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $13,942 average.
- It keeps the same balanced luxury-and-performance formula with a more refined overall feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2016 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and there are plenty of listings to compare. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model year, the 2017 is the better secondary path for buyers who want to stay close to the same formula while spending more.
