Is the 2016 Lexus ES a good car?

Is the 2016 Lexus ES reliable?

The owner feedback highlights reliability, and the expert notes reinforce that with language about bulletproof reliability and a car that doesn’t give much reason to doubt its durability. Lexus’s maintenance-notification feature adds a helpful ownership convenience.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about mechanical drama and more about finding a well-kept example with the right maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lexus ES?

At 49.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or multiple owners. Focus on cabin condition, electronics, and evidence of careful maintenance, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on refinement and ease of use. If you’re comparing listings, pay close attention to whether the equipment matches the price.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The ES 350 comes in only one trim, with different packages for buyers. The ultra-luxury package adds optional wood trim, a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, and a power rear sunshade, while navigation and Mark Levinson premium audio can be added separately. Lexus’s Safety Suite of lane-departure and blind-spot warnings is also available, so base cars may miss some desirable convenience and safety features.
• Powertrain: The ES 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. It is tuned more for cruising than performance, and Lexus estimates about 21 mpg city/31 highway/24 combined.
• Safety package: Lexus’s Safety Suite includes lane-departure warnings and blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control is also listed among the available safe-driving features. The optional Pre-Collision System earned a Superior front-crash-prevention rating.
• Infotainment: Standard equipment includes a 7-inch customizable display with HD radio, Bluetooth streaming, and traffic information. Navigation adds the Enform suite, and the available setup can include concierge-style functions such as movie times, weather, and Internet radio.
• Fuel efficiency: Lexus estimates 21 mpg city/31 highway/24 combined, and real-world testing returned roughly 22 mpg in mixed driving.

Which 2016 Lexus ES trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lexus ES is offered in 1 trim level: ES 350.

Here's the short version:

The ES 350 is the trim to shop if you want the core Lexus comfort formula without overcomplicating the search. It already delivers the quiet cabin, smooth ride, and upscale feel that define the model, and it is the only trim listed here, so your decision really comes down to which packages you want. If you want the most complete luxury experience, the ultra-luxury package is the standout add-on because it brings heated and ventilated front seats, wood trim, a panoramic sunroof, and a power rear sunshade.

Lexus’s Safety Suite is available as an option, so shoppers who want more driver-assistance coverage should look for a car equipped with it.

What is the 2016 Lexus ES's resale value?

The current average of $19,798 sits slightly above last year's $19,196.

That year-over-year increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. For a future seller, that can be a positive sign because steady demand often supports stronger exit pricing. The ES’s value-minded luxury positioning also helps it appeal to shoppers who want comfort and refinement without paying German-brand premiums.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Lexus offers lane-departure warnings, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control among its safe-driving features. The optional Pre-Collision System earned a Superior rating for front crash prevention. One caveat is that the car does not include semi-autonomous or fully autonomous driving features.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 35.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.13% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers a refreshed look, a quiet cabin, and comfort-focused luxury with strong safety ratings.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $16,898, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $19,798 average.
• It emphasizes refinement and comfort, with bulletproof reliability and a plush cabin.

The bottom line: If you want the newer year with a refreshed appearance and strong market support, the 2016 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
