How much does the 2016 Kia Sorento cost?

Prices have softened 6.86% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,214 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for comparison shopping.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Kia Sorento earns a 4.64/5 user rating and an 8.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its reliability, performance, smooth ride, handling, and good fuel efficiency. The overview also points to a more upscale appearance and a refined interior, which helps it feel more mature than a typical family hauler. For you, that means the Sorento makes the most sense if you want a crossover that balances everyday usability with a more polished feel. 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive buys in the market.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento reliable?

Owners rate it 4.64/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability, and the expert drive notes that the turbocharged engine is responsive in traffic and that the cabin stays quiet and composed. The cost-effectiveness coverage also points to a long warranty and regular unleaded fuel, both of which support confidence in ownership. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually strong. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the equipment on the vehicle matches the trim being advertised. If you’re shopping a higher-trim Sorento, make sure the added features are present and functioning as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L is well equipped, but the LX adds UVO eServices infotainment, roof rails, a rear camera, and optional comfort features; higher trims add more luxury and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The Sorento offers a 2.4-liter I4 with 185 hp and a 3.3-liter V6 with 290 hp, plus an available 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 with 240 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.
• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution; higher trims add features such as blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning.
• Infotainment: Higher trims bring UVO eServices, an 8-inch display, voice-command navigation, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and Sirius traffic; the system also supports app-based features and no additional subscription fees for UVO services.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged I4 with all-wheel drive is rated at 19 mpg city/25 highway/22 combined, and it takes regular unleaded gas.

Which 2016 Kia Sorento trim should I buy?

The 2016 Kia Sorento is offered in 8 trim levels: L, LX, LX V6, EX, EX V6, SX V6, Limited, and Limited V6.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point, but it still brings a strong standard equipment list, including Bluetooth, steering-wheel controls, a USB/auxiliary jack, and remote keyless entry. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Sorento without giving up the basics.
• LX: This trim adds UVO eServices, roof rails, a rear camera, and more available comfort features, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers.
• LX V6: Choose this if you want the stronger V6 engine and standard third-row seating without jumping all the way to the upper trims.
• EX: This is where the Sorento starts to feel more upscale, with standard dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, leather trim, and more available tech and safety features.
• EX V6: This is the better pick if you want the EX equipment with the V6 and the added practicality of the third row and rear air conditioning.
• SX V6: This trim layers on the EX V6’s equipment and adds more premium touches, including LED lighting details, memory seating, and additional exterior accents.
• Limited: This is the most feature-rich turbo option, with standard LED fog lights and available advanced driver-assistance features, making it the top choice if you want the fullest tech and safety content.
• Limited V6: Pick this if you want the top-end equipment with the V6, third row, and rear air conditioning.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some advanced driver-assistance features are reserved for higher trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Kia Sorento?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and pricing movement to reward careful shopping.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,214 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.86% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,856, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Kia Sorento's resale value?

The current average of $9,856 sits slightly below last year's $10,582.

That price movement suggests the Sorento has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. A lower entry cost gives you more room to hold value over time, especially if you choose a well-kept example with desirable equipment. Strong demand for a polished, practical crossover can also help support resale when it’s time to move on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.64/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Kia Sorento safe?

The 2016 Kia Sorento received a Good rating from IIHS and earned 2015 Top Safety Pick status.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes dual front advanced airbags, side airbags, side curtain airbags for the first and second rows, a rollover sensor, ABS, stability control, traction control, and electronic brakeforce distribution. Higher trims add or offer blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, a surround-view monitor, advanced smart cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. The main caveat is that some of the more advanced driver-assistance features are not standard on every trim.

Should I buy a 2016 Kia Sorento or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.86% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.64/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings an all-new design, a refined interior, and a new turbocharged engine option.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,552, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $9,856 average.
• It offers attractive styling and fair pricing.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $11,091, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $9,856 average.
• It improves across styling, comfort, safety, technology, and driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, refinement, and feature content, the 2016 is the strongest starting point. If your priority is spending less, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is the better choice if you’re willing to pay more for a broader all-around upgrade.
