Used 2016 Hyundai Elantra for Sale nearAustin, TX

How much does the 2016 Hyundai Elantra cost?

Prices have softened 3.25% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,293 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Hyundai Elantra earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and excellent fuel economy, and they also like its smooth ride and attractive design. That lines up with the overview’s focus on an easy-to-live-with compact sedan that feels roomy, efficient, simple, and safe. For you, that means this is a strong fit if you want everyday practicality over flash. 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s still meaningful value in the market.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to reliability, comfort, and excellent fuel economy, with drivers describing the car as dependable and easy to live with. The expert evaluation also emphasizes a drivetrain that “impresses far more than it distresses,” which supports the sense that the Elantra is built for steady daily use rather than drama. The ownership package is further helped by a long warranty and roadside assistance coverage, including engine and transmission coverage for 10 years or 100,000 miles. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure prior maintenance and wear items have been kept up, since age and mileage matter more than the car’s basic reputation.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Hyundai Elantra?

At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or shows uneven panel gaps, tire wear, or paint mismatch. Focus on condition over mileage alone, since a well-kept example can be a better buy than a cheaper car with hidden repair history. Pay close attention to equipment differences, because some features are standard only on higher trims or are missing from the base car.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SE is the entry point, while the Value Edition adds 16-inch aluminum wheels and a more upscale feel; the Sport is more powerful with a tighter suspension, and the Limited is the upscale choice. The base SE is the one most likely to leave you without some convenience features, so it’s worth checking equipment carefully if you want a better daily-driver experience.
• Powertrain: Most versions use a 145-hp 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, with a 6-speed manual in the SE and a 6-speed automatic with manual shift gate and Active Eco in the Value Edition and Limited. The setup is tuned for calm, predictable commuting rather than excitement.
• Safety package: A reversing camera is standard on all but the base SE. The car is not available with modern driver-assistance and crash-avoidance technologies, so you should not expect advanced active-safety features on this generation.
• Infotainment: The touchscreen radio system uses a 4.3-inch display on the Value Edition, while higher versions can get a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Pandora access, navigation, a premium sound system, and Blue Link subscription services. Bluetooth is available on the touchscreen radio system, but the base setup is more limited.
• Fuel efficiency: The official EPA ratings are 28 mpg city/38 highway/32 combined, and the test car returned 33.8 mpg on a 70-mile loop.

Which 2016 Hyundai Elantra trim should I buy?

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, Value Edition, Sport, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the least expensive path into the Elantra, but it’s also the most basic. It comes with the 6-speed manual and is the trim most likely to leave you wanting more convenience equipment, so it makes sense mainly if you want the lowest entry price.
• Value Edition: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers. It adds 16-inch aluminum wheels and pairs the 6-speed automatic with Active Eco, giving you a nicer-feeling daily driver without jumping all the way to the pricier trims.
• Sport: Choose this if you want the more powerful version and a tighter suspension. It’s the right pick if driving feel matters more to you than maximum comfort.
• Limited: This is the upscale choice, with the most premium-feeling equipment in the lineup. It’s the trim to target if you want the most complete Elantra experience and are willing to pay more for it.

The reversing camera is standard on all but the base SE, so that trim is the one with the biggest safety-equipment gap.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Hyundai Elantra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,293 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.25% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 48.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $7,964, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra's resale value?

The current average of $8,278 sits slightly below last year's $8,556.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can work against you if you plan to sell soon. On the other hand, it also means you may be buying after some depreciation has already been absorbed. If you keep the car in strong condition and maintain it well, you can help protect its future value. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Hyundai Elantra safe?

The Elantra earns an overall five-star rating from NHTSA and Good ratings in all IIHS tests except the small overlap frontal impact evaluation, where it receives an Acceptable rating.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

The car includes a reversing camera, but it is standard only on all but the base SE. It is not available with modern driver-assistance and crash-avoidance technologies, so you should not expect advanced active-safety features on this generation. The small-overlap IIHS result is the main caveat to keep in mind when you’re comparing it with newer rivals.

Should I buy a 2016 Hyundai Elantra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.25% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances value, comfort, and efficiency in a roomy, simple compact sedan.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $7,766, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,278 average.
• It offers strong value, generous space, and useful features.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $9,302, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,278 average.
• It brings a full redesign with stronger technology and a more upscale feel.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, comfort, and everyday usability, the 2016 is the sensible choice. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 makes sense if you want the newer redesign and are willing to pay more for it.
