The 2016 Honda EX is a wonderful car. The MPG is great combined with the durability of a Honda. I upgraded from a 2002 Civic EX and got my last one up to 199K miles (only performing standard maintenance checkups). 100% worth the value, and I would recommend these cars to anyone.

Love, love, love my Hondas and this one is no different. Drives so smoothly and the hatchback is very handy. Would definitely recommend.

I love the smoothness of the drive. I love the size; I can zip in and out of any parking space. The real deal breaker for me was the left hand lane warning mirror. I do wish it was a little higher from the ground. I do struggle a little bit to get in and out.

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
With 2,549 listings available, you have a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $13,345.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Honda Civic earns a 4.83/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its smooth drive, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, and they also like its stylish design and high safety ratings. The overview points to a compact car that works well for daily commuting while still feeling refined and modern. With 29.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviewers repeatedly describe it as reliable and praise its trouble-free ownership, dependable nature, and strong fuel economy. The expert summary also emphasizes thrift and dependability, reinforcing the sense that this is a car you can count on over time.
The powertrain and overall build quality support that impression, with a refined driving experience and strong efficiency helping reduce day-to-day ownership stress. Honda also includes a maintenance perk in the ownership experience, which adds to the appeal for used buyers. For a used purchase, the main long-term risk is less about the model’s core durability and more about how well the specific example has been maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Honda Civic?
At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has any accident history. Focus on body alignment, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair work, since condition can vary meaningfully from one listing to another. It also helps to compare trim equipment carefully so you know whether the car has the features you want or if you’d need to step up to a higher version.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base LX is the most stripped-down version, while higher trims add more comfort, convenience, and exterior polish. The Touring trim stands out with chrome accents, polished two-tone 17-inch wheels, full LED lighting, and a more upscale cabin presentation.
- Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder is standard on the lower trims, while the turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder adds more power and stronger torque. The manual transmission is limited to the base LX, and the CVT is used on the other trims.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. It is standard on every sedan trim, while the coupe gets it only on the Touring trim.
- Infotainment: The system includes an Android-based interface, Garmin navigation, Bluetooth streaming, Pandora, Aha, Apple CarPlay, and Android Audio. It also offers pinch-to-zoom and voice input, though some settings are buried deeper than you may want.
- Fuel efficiency: The CVT-equipped models return 31 mpg city and 42 mpg highway, while the manual LX gets 27 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. Over 300 miles, the test vehicle averaged close to 37 mpg.
Which 2016 Honda Civic trim should I buy?
The 2016 Honda Civic is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The LX is the least equipped choice, and it misses some of the upscale touches and convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The EX-T is the best balance if you want the turbocharged engine without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Premium/top trim: The Touring is the most luxurious choice, with the richest exterior details, the most advanced presentation, and the strongest overall feature set.
- Off-road trim: Not applicable here.
Honda Sensing is available on every sedan trim, which makes even the lower trims appealing if safety tech matters most to you.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Honda Civic?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,549 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 49.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $13,345.59, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $14,124 sits slightly below last year's $14,259.
That small decline suggests the market has softened a bit, but not enough to signal a major drop in desirability. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should still have a reasonable path to resale later. The model’s broad appeal, efficiency, and feature content help support demand among future used-car shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Honda Civic safe?
The 2016 Honda Civic sedan earns Top Safety Pick+ recognition from the IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA for frontal crash, side crash, and rollover risk.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision alert, auto braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and adaptive cruise control. On the sedan, it’s available across the trim range, while the coupe gets it only on the Touring trim. The backup camera also offers three views, including a top view and an extra-wide shot.
Should I buy a 2016 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 stands out for its refined redesign, strong safety, and available Honda Sensing package.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,159, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $14,124 average.
- It emphasizes reliability, safety, fuel efficiency, and value.
The bottom line: If you want the more modern, better-equipped Civic with stronger refinement and safety tech, the 2016 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable with an older, less powerful version, the 2015 is the smarter budget alternative.
