How much does the 2016 Ford Escape cost?

Prices have softened 7.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,111 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable range of choices.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Ford Escape earns a 4.6/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its zippy performance, stylish design, and plenty of interior space. The overview also points to agile handling and comfortable seating, which makes it a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that feels easy to drive without giving up everyday usefulness. The market also shows 29.1% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape reliable?

Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the Escape’s performance, features, and overall usefulness over time. The expert commentary also points to a vehicle that has improved over the years and can still make sense for buyers who want a well-rounded compact crossover. Ford’s maintenance perk language also helps the ownership picture, since the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that early issues and mixed resale perceptions can still affect confidence, so a careful inspection and history check matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Escape?

At 67.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here, since condition can vary a lot from one listing to another. Pay close attention to bodywork, alignment, and signs of wear that could point to harder use or incomplete repairs.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The S trim includes a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls, while the SE adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights and fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio. The Titanium adds keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate with foot sensor, a 10-speaker Sony stereo with HD Radio, and ambient interior lighting.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 168 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque. SE and Titanium trims use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost turbo four with 178 hp and 184 lb-ft, while the 2.0-liter EcoBoost brings 240 hp and 270 lb-ft for the strongest acceleration.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but it is not standard on every trim.
• Infotainment: Sync 3 centers on a 7-inch touchscreen, and the system was later slated to gain Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Technology Package also brings the navigation system.
• Fuel efficiency: The 1.6-liter turbo is described as returning better mileage than the base engine’s 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost is rated at 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway with FWD, or 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway with AWD.

Which 2016 Ford Escape trim should I buy?

The 2016 Ford Escape is offered in 3 trim levels: S, SE, Titanium.

Here's the short version:

• S: This is the value-focused starting point, and it already includes useful features like blind-spot monitoring, a rear-view camera, and MyKey. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live without the extra comfort and convenience equipment.
• SE: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds 17-inch alloys, automatic headlights and fog lights, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and satellite radio, plus the more efficient 1.6-liter EcoBoost. It gives you a stronger mix of features and drivability without jumping to the top trim.
• Titanium: This is the pick if you want the most upscale Escape, with keyless entry and ignition, a power liftgate, a premium Sony audio system, and more available tech. It suits you best if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping the purchase simple.

The Technology Package adds HID headlamps, blind-spot detection, auto wipers, and active park assist, but it is not standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Escape?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,111 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.80% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,856, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Ford Escape's resale value?

The current average of $8,856 sits slightly below last year's $9,605.

That price movement suggests the Escape has been under some resale pressure, which can be good news if you are buying now but less ideal if you plan to sell soon. If you own one, the softer market means you may need to price competitively to attract attention. On the other hand, a well-kept example with desirable equipment can still stand out because shoppers continue to value the Escape’s mix of performance and practicality.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Ford Escape safe?

The 2016 Ford Escape earns an overall four-star rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in overall front tests and five-star ratings in overall side tests. It also receives Good ratings in moderate-overlap frontal-offset, side-impact, and roof-strength IIHS tests, but a Poor result in the small-overlap frontal-offset test.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a full suite of airbags, a rear-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, and MyKey parental controls. The Technology Package adds blind-spot detection, auto wipers, HID headlamps, and active park assist. The small-overlap IIHS result is the main caution point, so you should weigh that carefully if crash protection is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2016 Ford Escape or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 67.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.80% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds Sync 3 and stronger tech than the earlier version.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,163, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $8,856 average.
• It is easy to live with and fuel-conscious.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $10,259, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $8,856 average.
• It brings a refresh with improved functionality and more safety tech.

The bottom line: The 2016 is the best all-around choice if you want the updated tech and a softer used price than the 2017. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while the 2017 is worth considering if you want the refresh and can pay more.
