Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Edge Sport is Ford’s performance-minded take on its midsize crossover, and it stands out because it pairs a family-friendly shape with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine. That combination gives it a more ambitious personality than a typical utility vehicle, and it is clearly aimed at buyers who want stronger performance without giving up the practicality of a crossover. Ford’s broader push to build out its Sport-labeled lineup also helps define the Edge Sport as part of a more athletic, upscale direction for the brand.
At the same time, the 2016 Ford Edge Sport is not presented as a luxury rival on equal footing with premium brands, and Ford’s own test-drive note suggests it still has work to do before it can truly compete with Audi. Even so, the Edge’s appeal is easy to understand: owners praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, smooth handling, and well-equipped feel. Some drivers do mention road noise and minor electronic glitches, but those drawbacks do not seem to outweigh the SUV’s strengths for most buyers.

The Ford Edge I bought was the titanium trim, so its absolutely loaded with features. The biggest surprises for me was that the rear seats are heated as well, and that the leather seats are some of the comfiest non- luxury brand seats Ive sat on. The V6 also offers enough power, abs the transmission is smooth through the gears. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and the ride of this vehicle.

How much does the 2016 Ford Edge cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,694 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,694 |
| Year-Round High | $11,817 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $11,819 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.52% |
Prices have softened 9.52% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,546 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge a good car?
Yes — the 2016 Ford Edge earns a 4.5/5 user rating and an 8.5/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, smooth handling, and well-equipped feel. The overview also points to a family-friendly shape with stronger performance than a typical crossover, which helps explain why it appeals to you if you want practicality without giving up personality. The market also shows 30.4% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights a comfortable ride, spacious interior, smooth handling, and a well-equipped cabin, while also noting that road noise and minor electronic glitches do not outweigh the positives for most drivers. The expert test-drive notes also describe the drivetrain as well isolated, with noise, vibration, and harshness kept in check. Ford’s software update capability via Wi-Fi adds a useful ownership perk for keeping the infotainment system current.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that small electronic or braking-related issues can matter more as mileage climbs, so condition and maintenance history deserve close attention.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Edge?
At 66.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with visible cosmetic wear. Pay close attention to braking feel, electronic behavior, tire condition, and any signs that the vehicle has been driven hard. Because this model can be appealing as a performance-oriented crossover, you’ll want to make sure the condition matches the way it was used.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Edge lineup spans a broad range, from the SE with front-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine to the SEL and Titanium with a 3.5-liter V6, while the Sport sits at the top with standard all-wheel drive, a twin-turbocharged V6, adaptive steering, and 21-inch wheels. The base trims are more lightly equipped, so you should compare feature content carefully if you want the best value.
- Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The performance notes emphasize strong acceleration, good NVH isolation, and a combined estimate of 20 mpg.
- Safety package: Ford’s safety suite includes 911 Assist, MyKey, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, forward camera, and semi-autonomous parking systems. The content also notes that automatic emergency braking is not included, and some driver aids can produce false alarms or feel unnatural.
- Infotainment: The Edge uses Sync 3 with a capacitive touch display, faster response, improved voice recognition, upgraded graphics, swipe and pinch-to-zoom support, smartphone projection for Apple and Android devices, and Wi-Fi software updates. Standard Sync with AppLink and dual USB ports are also included.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 19.7 mpg over a week, and the official combined estimate is 20 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point if you want the Edge’s basic shape and utility at the lowest cost, but it is the least equipped version and is best for shoppers focused on price above all else.
- SEL: This is the most balanced choice for many buyers because it adds more equipment without jumping all the way to the Sport’s performance-focused setup.
- Titanium: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel and more available equipment while staying away from the Sport’s firmer, more aggressive character.
- Sport: This is the standout if you want the strongest performance, standard all-wheel drive, adaptive steering, and the most distinctive driving character in the lineup.
Ford’s safety content also notes that the available driver-assistance technologies are extensive, but automatic emergency braking is not included.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,546 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 66.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,694, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $10,694 sits slightly below last year's $11,819.
That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. The Edge’s broad appeal, especially its comfort and practicality, should help support demand among used shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge safe?
The 2016 Ford Edge earns an Acceptable rating in the IIHS small overlap frontal impact test and five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s safety suite includes 911 Assist, MyKey programmable features, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, forward camera, semi-autonomous parking systems, and Brake Support. The content also notes that automatic emergency braking is missing, and that some warning systems can generate false alarms while lane-keeping assist may feel unnatural. That missing braking tech is the biggest caveat to keep in mind.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 stands out for its Sport model’s twin-turbo V6 performance, standard AWD, and strong tech upgrade with Sync 3.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,016, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $10,694 average.
- It emphasizes a more family-first layout with ample cargo room and storage cubbies.
The bottom line: If you want the better value and the more performance-forward personality, the 2016 is the stronger buy. If you care more about a slightly newer model with a more family-focused packaging approach, the 2017 is worth a look, but you’ll pay more for it.
