CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 1,601 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,266.00, 30.2% of 2016 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Ford Edge 4.45 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.
65.3% of 2016 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Ford Edge Sport stands out as Ford’s performance-minded take on its family-oriented crossover, but the test-drive impression is that it still has work to do before it can truly challenge Audi. That makes it distinctive in a very specific way: it is meant to look and feel like a sportier Edge, yet the comparison suggests its ambitions outpace its execution.
Even so, the Edge Sport fits into Ford’s broader push to build a “Sport” sub-brand across its larger vehicles and crossovers. The Edge Sport arrived after the Explorer Sport and before the Fusion Sport, and Ford says all three are designed to suggest performance and deliver it, thanks to standard twin-turbocharged V6 engines. For buyers, that gives the 2016 Edge Sport a clear appeal if they want a crossover with a more aggressive personality than the usual family hauler.
At the same time, owner feedback points to the qualities that make the Edge broadly appealing beyond the Sport badge. Drivers praise its comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, along with available features such as AWD and a sound system. Some owners do mention road noise and minor electronic glitches, but those drawbacks appear to be secondary to the Edge’s comfort and feature content.

The Ford Edge I bought was the titanium trim, so its absolutely loaded with features. The biggest surprises for me was that the rear seats are heated as well, and that the leather seats are some of the comfiest non- luxury brand seats Ive sat on. The V6 also offers enough power, abs the transmission is smooth through the gears. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality and the ride of this vehicle.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, spacious interior, and smooth handling, and they also highlight the technology and features packed into the SUV. The overview points to the Edge Sport as a more aggressive, performance-minded crossover, which gives you a clear use case if you want something that feels sportier than a typical family hauler.
The market also shows 27.5% of listings as good or great deals, which supports the case for shopping carefully and comparing examples.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.45/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a comfortable, dependable-feeling SUV that many drivers feel good about living with over time, with the positive ownership experience outweighing the occasional road noise and minor electronic glitches. The expert drive notes also describe the Edge Sport as a satisfying, well-isolated vehicle that feels composed in daily use, which reinforces the sense that it can be a trouble-free choice when maintained properly.
Ford also includes a standard first-call collision notification system and safety-oriented driver aids that help support everyday confidence. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior wear, electronics, and braking condition have been checked carefully before you commit.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Ford Edge?
At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or incomplete service records. Focus on body condition, brake feel, tire wear, and any signs that the electronics or driver-assistance features have been repaired or altered. Because this model can be loaded with equipment, you should also confirm that the features you care about actually work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Edge Sport stands apart with standard all-wheel drive, a new adaptive steering system, and a more aggressive look and feel, while the broader lineup starts with a more basic SE that has fewer options.
- Powertrain: The Sport uses a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.
- Safety package: Ford’s safety tech includes MyKey, 911 Assist, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, forward camera, and semi-autonomous parking systems, but the model lacks automatic emergency braking.
- Infotainment: Sync 3 brings a capacitive touch display, faster response, improved voice recognition, smartphone projection for Apple and Android devices, and Wi-Fi software updates.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle returned 19.7 mpg over a week, and the official combined estimate is 20 mpg.
Which 2016 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2016 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point if you want the Edge’s basic family-crossover formula at the lowest price, but it is the least equipped version and is described as having few options.
- SEL: This trim adds more equipment as you move up the lineup and is a better fit if you want a more balanced mix of features without jumping all the way to the top.
- Titanium: This is the more upscale mainstream choice, adding extras and offering a 3.5-liter V6, so it suits you if comfort and equipment matter more than performance.
- Sport: This is the standout if you want the most distinctive Edge, with standard all-wheel drive, adaptive steering, a twin-turbo V6, and the most aggressive personality; it is the best fit if you want the sportiest version and are willing to pay for it.
The Sport also comes with the most performance-focused setup, but the safety content notes that it lacked automatic emergency braking in testing.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Ford Edge?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,613 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 65.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,258.82, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $11,290 sits slightly below last year's $12,155.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the vehicle for a while. For a future seller, the softer pricing means you may not see a quick appreciation story, so condition and trim choice matter more if you want to protect value. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should still draw interest, especially if they present cleanly and have strong ownership appeal.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Ford Edge safe?
It earns an Acceptable rating in the IIHS small overlap frontal impact test and five-star ratings in all NHTSA assessments, plus a four-star rollover resistance rating.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford includes MyKey, 911 Assist, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, forward camera, and semi-autonomous parking systems, along with Brake Support that primes the brakes after an alert. The safety content also notes that the model lacked automatic emergency braking, and the lane-keeping assist system felt unnatural enough that it was often left off.
Should I buy a 2016 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 65.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.11% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2016 Edge Sport adds standard all-wheel drive, adaptive steering, and a twin-turbo V6.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $12,503, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $11,290 average.
- It emphasizes a more practical, family-friendly layout with ample cargo room and storage cubbies.
The bottom line: If you want the sportier, lower-priced choice, the 2016 makes sense, especially if you value its performance-minded Edge Sport setup. If you care more about everyday practicality and can spend more, the 2017 is the cleaner alternative.
