The performance writeup reinforces that it is quick, rewarding to drive, and capable of handling commuting and freeway use with few flaws.

The cost-effectiveness notes also point to affordable versions and meaningful gas savings, which helps reduce ownership strain over time. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that satisfaction can be offset if you choose a poorly maintained example or one with neglected wear items.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Charger?

At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or equipped with performance packages. Focus on condition, maintenance records, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT test car is described as one trim rung up from the base model, and the base setup can feel sparse compared with the better-equipped versions. The content also notes that some shoppers may miss higher-end conveniences such as massage seats and a 360 camera.
• Powertrain: All SE and SXT models use a 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available on both trim levels. The V6 is described as excellent and efficient for a car this size.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Some features are optional rather than standard.
• Infotainment: The Charger uses an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect, and the system is described as easy and intuitive. The content also notes that the USB port is hard to access, the reversing camera resolution is poor at night, and Uconnect can be slow to start or respond.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returned 22.9 mpg in combined driving and is described as essentially matching the EPA’s 23 mpg combined estimate.

Which 2016 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Charger is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and SXT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Charger’s core personality at the lowest cost. It gets the V6, rear-wheel drive, and the basic Charger experience, but you’ll want to check carefully for the equipment you care about because the content suggests the lower trims can feel light on conveniences.
• SXT: This is the best-value trim if you want the strongest balance of price, equipment, and everyday livability. The test car was an SXT, and the content highlights its comfortable interior, easy-to-use controls, and strong all-around driving character.

The safety content notes that driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies are available, so verify which features are included on the specific car you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Charger?

The market looks like a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and move quickly when you find a strong example.

• Deal availability: 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 929 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.77% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 48.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,965, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $15,976 sits slightly above last year's $15,396.

That upward move suggests the Charger is holding demand well in the used market. If prices continue to firm up, sellers with clean, well-kept examples may be able to command stronger offers than owners of similar cars with accident history or missing equipment.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2016 Dodge Charger gets a Marginal rating in the small overlap frontal impact crash test from the IIHS, while other crash-test assessments earn top ratings from both the federal government and the IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assistance and collision-avoidance technologies include forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. The content also notes that the car’s structural age contributes to the small overlap result, so that test deserves extra attention if safety is a top priority.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 26.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 48.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.77% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary says the Charger’s image masks a more satisfying family sedan than many buyers expect.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,394, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,976 average.
• It offers a sleeker, more aggressive look with a familiar, easy-to-use cabin.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $17,748, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $15,976 average.
• It leans harder into thunderous, attention-grabbing muscle-car personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, satisfaction, and everyday capability, the 2016 is the primary target. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money while keeping the Charger formula intact.
