CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,247 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,302.00, 29.5% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
54.3% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a completely redesigned version of a classic American pony car, and it brings a more refined feel than the model it replaced. Chevy also gave it updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech, while the car rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS. That combination helps make the Camaro feel like a fresh take on a familiar name rather than a simple update.
For buyers, the appeal is easy to understand: the Camaro remains a car with strong emotional pull, but this version aims to pair that heritage with more modern polish. Owners also tend to praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. At the same time, visibility can be a significant issue, especially for taller drivers, and the cabin may feel cramped for those over six feet tall.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

If you find a listing below $21,024.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts, the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro lands as a strong choice if you want a sporty coupe with modern tech and serious performance. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the Camaro’s sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling. The redesign also gives you a more refined, more modern take on the classic pony-car formula, with a cabin that feels more up to date than the outgoing car.
If you want a performance coupe that still offers a more economical turbo-four option, this year’s Camaro fits that use case well. 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a car that many drivers find dependable over time, with praise centered on the Camaro’s strong performance and overall satisfaction. The expert evaluation also frames the car as a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality, which supports the idea that it can be a sensible long-term choice if you buy the right example.
If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is less about the drivetrain and more about finding a well-kept car that hasn’t been compromised by poor visibility-related wear or neglect.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage affected the structure, airbags, or safety systems. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially because the Camaro’s styling can make outward visibility and parking-related wear more relevant than on many rivals. Focus on condition, completeness of equipment, and whether the car’s features still work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The 2LT adds push-button start, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen.
- Powertrain: The base turbocharged inline 4-cylinder makes 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, while the available 3.6-liter V6 makes 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque; the SS uses a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, and the system supports Apple CarPlay. A head-up display is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined. The V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 2 trim levels: 2LT and SS.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The 2LT is the better everyday pick if you want the Camaro’s modern cabin upgrades, stronger comfort features, and a more complete tech setup without jumping to V8 pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The SS is the choice if you want the full performance experience, including the 6.2-liter V8 and the most aggressive driving character.
The Convenience and Lighting package adds useful safety tech, but the Camaro’s visibility remains a major drawback regardless of trim.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,245 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.44% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 54.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,024.58, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,302 sits slightly below last year's $23,642.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may face a market that rewards well-kept examples more than average ones. If you maintain the car well and keep mileage and condition in check, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell. Strong demand for the Camaro’s style and performance should continue to support resale interest.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
The main safety caveat is visibility: the Camaro’s thick pillars and limited sight lines are a real drawback, especially when backing up or changing lanes. Even with the available driver-assistance features, you should pay close attention to how well you can see out of the car during a test drive.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings a more refined platform, stronger handling, and a modernized cabin.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,988, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,302 average.
- It adds the Performance Data Recorder.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter starting point because pricing has eased and inventory is still healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for the next year’s added performance-focused tech, the 2017 is the better upgrade path. For most used shoppers, the 2016 offers the stronger balance of price, features, and satisfaction.
