CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Cadillac CTS
overall

Summary
With 255 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,916, 26.7% of 2016 Cadillac CTS listings on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Cadillac CTS 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
55.3% of 2016 Cadillac CTS listings on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Cadillac CTS stands out as a sleek, modern luxury sedan that builds on the car’s evolution toward sharper styling, stronger powertrains, and more advanced technology. According to the test-drive summary, it is the largest, most refined, and most high-tech version of the CTS to date, and it was largely carried over to 2016 with a few key updates. That combination gives it a more contemporary feel than the older Cadillac image it helped replace.
Those updates are what make the 2016 model especially noteworthy. The blurb says it looks like the car that debuted in 2014, but some key changes make it more powerful and more tech-savvy, improving its ability to compete with well-known German luxury brands. Owners also tend to praise its sleek design, comfort, advanced safety features, smooth driving experience, and luxurious interior. The main limitation in the available owner feedback is that many reviews are brief, so there is less detailed criticism to weigh against the praise.

Beautiful lines and stance. Excellent driver comfort and controls. Drives like it is on rails. Was hit from behind at 50 mph while sitting at red light, completely totaled car and airbags deployed from several locations and saved my life. Will get another one!

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels sleek, comfortable, and advanced, while also suggesting it is the kind of vehicle people enjoy living with over time. The expert drive notes a confident, well-sorted driving experience, and the performance writeup emphasizes responsive handling and strong braking, which supports the impression of a car that feels dependable in daily use.
The cost-effectiveness notes also highlight that the CTS delivers a lot of equipment for the money, which can help reduce the feeling that you need to overbuy to get a satisfying ownership experience. What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?
At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on body alignment, paint consistency, electronics, and how smoothly the car drives, since luxury sedans can hide expensive issues if you only judge them by appearance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Standard trim is the entry point, while Luxury adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. Performance adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist, while Premium layers on a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts. If you want the best value, the Luxury trim is the most balanced starting point, while Premium is for shoppers who want the richest feature set.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft, or a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. The car uses an 8-speed automatic and can be had with rear-wheel drive or available all-wheel drive, and the V6 AWD setup is described as responsive and confidence-inspiring.
- Safety package: The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The CTS also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, with the surround-view system especially helpful given the car’s longer wheelbase and less-tight turning radius.
- Infotainment: Cadillac User Experience uses a touchscreen layout with customizable icons, and it includes audio, navigation, phone, climate, settings, Pandora, OnStar, and Apple CarPlay. The system also supports seamless switching between CarPlay and native functions, and the test car featured a customizable, multicolored head-up display.

Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?
The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the entry point, so it makes sense if you want the CTS experience at the lowest starting price and plan to add only the essentials you need.
- Luxury: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels without jumping all the way to the top.
- Performance: Choose this if you want the more capability-focused setup, since it adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist.
- Premium: This is the right pick if you want the most upscale CTS, with the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?
This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting for a dramatic bargain.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 247 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.52% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,883, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?
The current average of $12,883 sits slightly below last year's $13,930.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it comes time to sell.
The CTS’s appeal also helps support demand: it has a strong design, a premium cabin, and a reputation for advanced features that still matter to used shoppers. That combination can make it easier to attract buyers later, especially if your car is clean, well-equipped, and documented.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?
The 2016 Cadillac CTS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
It has a standard driver-awareness package that includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. The car also comes with 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor, which helps with parking and low-speed maneuvering.
The available surround-view system is especially useful because the CTS’s longer wheelbase can make tight turns and parking feel less nimble. If you’re comparing trims, make sure the safety equipment you want is included on the specific car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.52% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It adds a more refined, high-tech feel while largely carrying over the third-generation CTS formula.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,484, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,883 average.
- It gets the fundamentals right and has a more athletic edge.
The bottom line: If you want the more polished and tech-forward version of the CTS, the 2016 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up some of the newer-year polish, the 2015 is the value play worth cross-shopping.
