CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Subaru Legacy
overall

Summary
With 501 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,687.00, 30.3% of 2015 Subaru Legacies for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
59.9% of 2015 Legacy models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Subaru Legacy stands out as a redesigned sedan that is bigger, better looking, and more generously appointed than before. Its styling is described as vanilla-flavored, but the tradeoff is a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which make it feel more focused on everyday comfort than on flash. That shift gives the car a clear identity: it is a practical family sedan that aims to be more spacious and more polished without losing its Subaru character.
At the same time, the 2015 Legacy is presented as a car that may have sacrificed some appeal in the translation. The driving impression is less enthusiastic than its improved size and presentation might suggest, and the summary notes that something has been lost for the enthusiast driver. Even so, owner feedback points to strengths that matter to many buyers, including safety, reliability, confident performance in various weather conditions, smooth power delivery, and an impressive sound system. A few drivers did note limited acceleration, which is worth keeping in mind for shoppers who want stronger passing power.

This was our 3rd legacy. Wonderful car! Great in inclement weather. The legacy kept us safe and unharmed in an accident. Would recommend to anyone wanting a safe, reliable car with some nice features at a fair price.

Reviewed a 2015 Subaru 2.5i AWD on Oct 2, 2014
I just purchased the 2015 Legacy 2.5i with black cloth interior, winter package and a dealer package. The reviews say it looks plain but I love its classic looks. I test drove the 2015 impreza (sucks), seen the sti and wrx (ugly) and decided on the legacy which is much roomier, quiet, and better looking. Theres more power and better mileage than the 2013-2014 model too! Not to mention decreased cabin noise. after 2,000 miles im still loving it.

Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy a good car?
Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its safety features, reliability, smooth power delivery, and performance in various weather conditions. The overview also frames it as a practical family sedan with a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which fits the everyday-use focus many shoppers want. Even with some notes about limited acceleration, the overall package points to a sedan that works well if you value comfort, confidence, and all-weather usability. 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback highlights reliability, and it also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use and in bad weather. The expert review adds that the Legacy is expected to serve owners well over time, and it also notes historically favorable cost of ownership. That combination suggests a used example can be a sensible long-term buy if you choose carefully and keep up with maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?
At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with collision records. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs of uneven wear or repair. Because this model is often bought for comfort and all-weather confidence, you should also pay close attention to how well the car has been maintained and whether its equipment works as expected.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and smartphone integration, while the Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. The Limited adds leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited adds a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps. The best-value trim is the 2.5i Premium if you want a stronger feature set without moving all the way up the range.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp, paired with a Lineartronic CVT that includes a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Subaru’s Active Torque Split AWD system with Active Torque Vectoring is standard, and the review notes that the setup helps with stability and traction in poor weather and on dry roads alike.
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models, so you should confirm whether a lower trim has those features before you buy.
- Infotainment: The Legacy uses Subaru’s Starlink interface with a 7-inch color touchscreen, Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, and Internet radio apps. The system also supports voice interaction, and the available navigation system displays maps with detailed graphics.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA estimates 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined for the 2.5-liter powertrain, though the test vehicle returned 23.4 mpg in mixed driving.
Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?
The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.
Here's the short version:
- 2.5i: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a full suite of power accessories, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, smartphone integration, and a 60/40-split folding rear seat. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the Legacy and can live without the extra comfort and convenience features.
- 2.5i Premium: This trim adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. It is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades without jumping to the pricier Limited models.
- 2.5i Limited: This version brings leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Choose it if you want a more upscale cabin and more safety tech.
- 3.6R Limited: This trim swaps in a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and adds Xenon headlamps. It suits you if you want the strongest engine in the lineup and are willing to pay for it.
Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.

What is the 2015 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $10,802 sits slightly above last year's $10,686.
That modest increase suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy well and keep the car in good condition, you should have a decent chance of preserving value better than a vehicle with weaker demand. The fact that pricing is still moving upward also suggests buyers continue to see appeal in the Legacy’s mix of practicality and all-weather capability.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models, so safety equipment varies by trim. The review also notes that EyeSight was upgraded with new cameras and more refined operation for this model year, which strengthens its appeal if you want a well-equipped safety package.
Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 25.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 1.09% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Subaru’s EyeSight system is upgraded with new cameras and more refined operation this year.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,883, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,802 average.
- It is a practical family sedan with strong fuel economy, safety, comfort, quality, and all-weather confidence.
The bottom line: Choose the 2015 if you want the more polished, better-equipped version and are comfortable paying a bit more for it. If your priority is saving money first, the 2014 is the smarter value play, especially if you can find one in strong condition with a clean history.
