What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?

At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim example with more features. Because the Legacy is often bought for comfort and all-weather confidence, it’s worth paying close attention to how well the car has been cared for overall.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and smartphone integration, while the 2.5i Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. The 2.5i Limited adds 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited brings a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps.
• Powertrain: The standard setup is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp, paired with a Lineartronic CVT that includes a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Subaru’s Active Torque Split AWD system with Active Torque Vectoring is standard.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
• Infotainment: Starlink uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, and Internet radio apps such as Pandora, Stitcher, and iHeart Radio. It also supports Aha Radio, and the interface is designed for swipe and pinch gestures.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter powertrain is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.

Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5i: This is the value play if you want the Legacy’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the standard all-wheel drive, rear-view camera, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and a folding rear seat, so it covers the basics well.
• 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and voice-command capability without jumping all the way to the top trims.
• 2.5i Limited: Choose this if you want the most complete four-cylinder version. It adds leather, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Harman Kardon audio system.
• 3.6R Limited: Pick this only if you specifically want the 6-cylinder engine and the extra equipment that comes with it.

Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.

That small decline suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is generally helpful if you’re planning to sell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate your car’s value and avoid sharp depreciation surprises. Strong owner satisfaction also helps keep demand healthy for well-kept examples.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Subaru’s redesigned cabin and available EyeSight safety tech make this year feel more polished and better equipped.

Consider the 2014 if:

• It’s a practical, value-focused family sedan with strong comfort, safety, and all-weather capability.

The bottom line: Buy the 2015 if you want the more refined, better-equipped version with strong safety and comfort appeal. If your priority is saving money first, the 2014 is the better budget path.

How does the 2015 Subaru Legacy compare to the 2015 Honda Accord?

Our experts score the 2015 Subaru Legacy 7.8/10 and the 2015 Honda Accord 8.2/10.

The Legacy gives you standard all-wheel drive, a lower average used price, and a stronger share of good or great deals. The Accord counters with more horsepower, a higher expert score, and a larger used-car market. If you want all-weather traction and better value, the Legacy makes sense; if you want stronger performance and broader shopping inventory, the Accord has the edge.
