CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Subaru Legacy
overall

Summary
With 508 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,529, 28.9% of 2015 Subaru Legacies for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
59.3% of 2015 Legacy models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Subaru Legacy stands out as a redesigned sedan that is bigger, better looking, and more generously appointed than before. Its styling is described as vanilla-flavored, but the tradeoff is a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which make it feel more substantial and more comfortable for everyday use. That combination gives the car a more mainstream appeal while still keeping the Legacy’s practical character intact.
At the same time, the 2015 Legacy is presented as a car that may have lost a little of the enthusiast edge that once defined it. The test-drive summary suggests that something has been lost in the translation, even as the car’s overall package improves. Owner feedback reinforces the Legacy’s strengths in safety, reliability, and performance in various weather conditions, along with smooth power delivery and a strong sound system. A few drivers did note that acceleration can feel lacking compared with other cars, so the Legacy’s appeal is strongest for buyers who value comfort, confidence, and all-around usability over outright speed.

This was our 3rd legacy. Wonderful car! Great in inclement weather. The legacy kept us safe and unharmed in an accident. Would recommend to anyone wanting a safe, reliable car with some nice features at a fair price.

Reviewed a 2015 Subaru 2.5i AWD on Oct 2, 2014
I just purchased the 2015 Legacy 2.5i with black cloth interior, winter package and a dealer package. The reviews say it looks plain but I love its classic looks. I test drove the 2015 impreza (sucks), seen the sti and wrx (ugly) and decided on the legacy which is much roomier, quiet, and better looking. Theres more power and better mileage than the 2013-2014 model too! Not to mention decreased cabin noise. after 2,000 miles im still loving it.

With 502 listings available, you have a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $10,084.79, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 5/5 user-rated car with an expert score of 7.83/10. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its safety, reliability, smooth power delivery, and strong performance in various weather conditions. The overview also frames it as a practical family sedan with a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which fits buyers who want everyday comfort and usefulness more than flash. With 29.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that owners trust, with repeated praise for reliability, trouble-free ownership, and minimal maintenance needs even at higher mileage. The expert review also notes that both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power expect the model to serve owners well over time, and the cost-effectiveness discussion reinforces that long-term ownership should be manageable. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the car’s reputation and more about making sure a specific example has been maintained properly.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?
At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a prior collision. Focus on bodywork quality, panel alignment, and signs that safety systems or driver-assistance features may not be functioning as intended. Because this model is often bought for comfort and all-weather confidence, you’ll also want to make sure the car feels tight, quiet, and well maintained on the road.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and smartphone integration, while Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. Limited models add leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited brings a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps.
- Powertrain: The standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder makes 175 hp and uses a Lineartronic CVT with a 6-speed manual mode and paddle shifters. Subaru’s Active Torque Split AWD with Active Torque Vectoring is standard, and the setup is tuned more for comfort and stability than excitement.
- Safety package: EyeSight includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning, with upgraded cameras and smoother operation for this model year. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
- Infotainment: Starlink uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, Internet radio apps, and a navigation display with detailed maps. The system also supports smartphone-connected features and voice control on higher trims.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter powertrain is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined, though the review’s observed fuel economy was lower than expected.
Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?
The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.
Here's the short version:
- 2.5i: This is the value entry point if you want the Legacy’s core strengths without paying for extras. You still get the rear-view camera, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and standard AWD, so it covers the basics well.
- 2.5i Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, and voice-command capability without jumping all the way to the top end.
- 2.5i Limited: Choose this if you want the most complete 2.5-liter setup, especially leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, and the Harman Kardon audio system.
- 3.6R Limited: Pick this only if you specifically want the 6-cylinder engine and the added equipment that comes with it, including Xenon headlamps.
For safety-minded shoppers, the Limited models get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert standard, while Premium models can add that package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?

- Inventory: There are 502 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,084.79, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $10,606 sits slightly below last year's $10,662.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value because the model is not swinging sharply up or down. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to trade in or list your car privately.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy safe?
The IIHS gave the Legacy top marks in all crash tests, and the car easily meets Top Safety Pick requirements.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning, and it was upgraded this year with new cameras and smoother operation. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models. The main caveat is that NHTSA testing had not yet been completed in the source material.
Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 brings a redesigned, larger cabin with nicer accommodations and upgraded EyeSight refinement.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,892, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,606 average.
- It is an exceptionally talented wallflower with strong fuel economy, safety, comfort, quality, and all-weather confidence.
The bottom line: If you want the more polished cabin, updated design, and stronger feature set, the 2015 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 gives you many of the Legacy’s core strengths at a lower price, making it the smarter value play for budget-focused shoppers.
