How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 1.84% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,409 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Forester earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and practicality. In use-case terms, that makes it a strong fit if you want a compact crossover that prioritizes everyday usefulness, value, and all-weather confidence over flashy design or the latest cabin tech.

There are 33.3% good or great deals in the market, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owner feedback also points to dependable day-to-day use, with recurring praise for practicality and overall value. The expert review reinforces that theme by describing it as a good balance for a reliable family and grocery hauler.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that some listings may carry reliability concerns, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on cars with incomplete service records or visible cosmetic repairs. Focus on how the cabin, electronics, and safety systems function in real use, since owner feedback and expert testing both point to tech and reliability concerns as the main watchouts.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2.5i Premium is the trim highlighted in the expert review, and the base setup is described as having a very small 4.3-inch screen and a basic cabin feel, so lower trims are the ones most likely to leave you wanting more equipment.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter boxer 4-cylinder can be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the turbocharged 2.0XT brings a 250-hp 2.0-liter engine for much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure and sway warnings, plus pre-collision throttle management; it is optical rather than radar-based, so low-visibility conditions can cause it to disengage.
• Infotainment: The standard display is 4.3 inches, and the optional navigation system uses a 6.1-inch touchscreen; the review says the interface is laggy and low-resolution.
• Fuel efficiency: The 6-speed manual is rated at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the CVT returns 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. The turbocharged 2.0XT is rated at 23 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 1 trim level: 2.5i Premium.

Here's the short version:

The 2.5i Premium: This is the trim most clearly supported by the expert review, and it’s the best fit if you want the Forester’s core strengths without chasing the turbo model. It gives you the practical, safety-first character the Forester is known for, while the review also shows that the available EyeSight package adds meaningful driver-assistance tech. If you’re shopping used, this is the trim to target first because it captures the model’s value and safety appeal without pushing you into the more expensive, less necessary extras.

The safety package is a major part of the Forester’s appeal, and EyeSight is the key option to look for if you want the most advanced driver assistance.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,409 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.84% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,086 sits slightly below last year's $11,294.

That softer pricing suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation rather than assuming the model will hold firm on name recognition alone.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns a Top Safety Pick from IIHS and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical AWD, antilock discs, traction and stability control, and multiple airbags including front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise, lane-departure and sway warnings, plus pre-collision throttle management.

One caveat is that EyeSight is camera-based, so low-visibility conditions can reduce its availability.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 33.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.84% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs strong safety with practical value and a fresh post-redesign feel.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,655, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,086 average.
• It leans hard into Subaru’s all-wheel-drive reputation and all-weather capability.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,552, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,086 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface and feels more up to date.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, safety, and everyday usefulness, the 2015 is the primary year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, the 2014 is the cheaper path; if you want a newer-feeling cabin and can spend more, the 2016 is the upgrade path.

How does the 2015 Subaru Forester compare to the 2015 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2015 Subaru Forester 7.2/10 and the 2015 Honda CR-V 8.5/10. The CR-V is the stronger overall pick on paper, with more power, better fuel economy, and a higher expert score. The Forester counters with a lower average used price, stronger safety emphasis, and standard all-wheel-drive appeal. If you want the better value and safety-first personality, the Forester makes sense; if you want the more polished all-around compact SUV, the CR-V has the edge.
