What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the transmission, cooling system, and any signs of uneven wear or neglected maintenance. It also helps to compare condition closely across listings, since this truck’s market includes both clean examples and vehicles with prior incidents.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Silverado’s look and feel range from work-truck simplicity to more upscale, body-color, and chrome-heavy appearances, and the higher-end versions add premium materials and comfort features. Base-trim trucks are the ones most likely to leave out the nicer cabin touches and convenience equipment.
• Powertrain: The truck uses a traditional engine lineup, and the available 6.2-liter V8 adds more power and towing ability than the 5.3-liter V8, but it also costs more and uses more fuel.
• Safety package: The available Driver Alert Package adds lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, front and rear parking-assist sensors, and a safety-alert seat. Blind-spot warning is not available.
• Infotainment: Chevrolet MyLink comes with either a 4.2-inch or 8-inch touchscreen, and the system includes Bluetooth pairing. The truck is also available with OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot capability.
• Fuel efficiency: The expert evaluation cites 17 mpg in combined driving, and the test truck returned 16.1 mpg.

Which 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 trim should I buy?

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is offered in 4 trim levels: WT, LT, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• WT: This is the most basic choice, aimed at buyers who want the Silverado’s core capability without extra frills. It makes sense if you care most about utility and price.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds more everyday comfort and convenience without pushing you into the highest-priced versions.
• LTZ: This trim is the move if you want a more upscale cabin and more available equipment, especially if you plan to spend a lot of time in the truck.
• High Country: This is the most premium version and suits you if you want the Silverado’s most luxurious presentation and are willing to pay for it.

The available Driver Alert Package adds lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, front and rear parking-assist sensors, and a safety-alert seat.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 4,019 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $17,006, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500's resale value?

The current average of $17,074 sits slightly below last year's $18,222.

That decline suggests the truck has softened in the used market, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. The current pricing also sits within a fairly tight year-round range, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to sell. Trucks with cleaner histories and stronger equipment tend to be easier to move later.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 safe?

The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA crash tests except rollover resistance, where it gets a four-star rating. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rates its moderate overlap frontal-impact performance as Good.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Driver Alert Package adds lane-departure warning, forward-collision alert, front and rear parking-assist sensors, and a safety-alert seat. OnStar also provides Automatic Crash Response, and the truck includes a reversing camera and rear parking-assist sensors as available equipment. One notable gap is that blind-spot warning is not available.

Should I buy a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or consider a different year?

Choose the 2015 if:

• 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.30% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 stands out for its straightforward, traditional truck formula and strong towing-focused appeal.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $15,250, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $17,074 average.
• It emphasizes everyday usefulness, family duty, and dependable all-weather versatility.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market balance of price, satisfaction, and availability, the 2015 is the better starting point. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the more budget-friendly path.
