What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Volvo S60?

At 63.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of bodywork, repairs, and wear items. Because some owners mention mechanical issues and pricey repairs, condition should matter more than mileage alone. If you’re comparing multiple listings, focus on maintenance records, accident history, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base T5 FWD comes with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, Bluetooth connectivity, rain-sensing wipers, 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch display screen, and a 6-month satellite radio subscription. It can be supplemented with optional safety technologies, heated front and rear seats, and wood trim, while higher trims add features like a rear-view camera, navigation, premium audio, and more upscale interior details.
• Powertrain: The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter 5-cylinder with 250 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, while T6 variants add a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque. The R-Design version is retuned to 325 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and the engines run on regular-grade gasoline.
• Safety package: The Blind Spot Information System Package includes a blind-spot monitor, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors. Other available safety tech includes intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, and road-sign information.
• Infotainment: The S60 uses a 7-inch display screen that is not a touchscreen. It relies on physical controls, and the system can be confusing when pairing a phone.
• Fuel efficiency: The T5 is rated at 20 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, while the 3.0-liter engine is rated at 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

Which 2014 Volvo S60 trim should I buy?

The 2014 Volvo S60 is offered in 10 trim levels: T5 FWD, T5 FWD Premier, T5 FWD Premier Plus, T5 FWD Platinum, T6 AWD, T6 AWD Premier Plus, T6 AWD Platinum, T6 AWD R-Design, T6 AWD R-Design Platinum, and T6 AWD Premier.

Here's the short version:

• T5 FWD: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core S60 experience with the standard comfort and safety equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience features found higher up.
• T5 FWD Premier: This adds a push-button ignition, moonroof, leather upholstery, and power adjustment for the front passenger seat. It’s a better fit if you want a more premium feel without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• T5 FWD Premier Plus: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds a universal garage door opener and a rear-view camera. If you want a more complete daily driver, this is the trim to target.
• T5 FWD Platinum: This trim adds navigation, a 650-watt premium Surround Sound audio system, and auto-dimming exterior mirrors. Choose it if you want the most comfort and tech in the front-wheel-drive lineup.
• T6 AWD: This version adds all-wheel drive, sport seats, 18-inch alloys, driver-selectable steering modes, paddle shifters, and a dynamic chassis. It suits you if you want the stronger powertrain and a more engaging setup.
• T6 AWD Premier Plus: This trim builds on the T6 AWD with the same kind of convenience upgrades seen in the T5 line, making it a balanced step up for buyers who want more equipment without going all the way to the top.
• T6 AWD Platinum: This is the richer T6 choice if you want the added luxury and tech content of the Platinum treatment along with the stronger powertrain.
• T6 AWD R-Design: This is the most characterful version, with unique front and rear styling cues, performance-tuned underpinnings, exclusive upholstery and interior details, and HID headlights. It’s the one to buy if you want the sportiest feel.
• T6 AWD R-Design Platinum: This combines the R-Design’s sportier character with the Platinum equipment set, making it the most fully loaded and most expensive choice.
• T6 AWD Premier: This trim appears in the equipment list as part of the T6 AWD family and is the right pick if you want the AWD powertrain with a more accessible feature set than the upper trims.

The safety package note to keep in mind is that some safety technologies are optional on lower trims, so verify the exact equipment on any listing before you buy.

• Deal availability: 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 291 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.

What is the 2014 Volvo S60's resale value?

The current average of $8,202 sits slightly below last year's $8,915.

That softer pricing suggests the S60 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price. It also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and maintenance history. Because the model has solid owner satisfaction, demand should remain reasonably steady for clean examples.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Volvo S60 safe?

The 2014 Volvo S60 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests and a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety story is strong, with a strong passenger compartment and a wide set of airbags and ABS. Available driver-assistance features include intelligent cruise control, forward-collision warning, full auto brake, pedestrian and cyclist detection, road-sign information, and the Blind Spot Information System Package with blind-spot monitoring, cross-traffic alert, lane-change merge aid, and parking sensors. Lower trims may not include every safety feature, so you should verify the exact equipment on any used listing.

Should I buy a 2014 Volvo S60 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.00% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for its strong safety focus and engaging R-Design personality.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $8,871, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $8,202 average.
• It gets a fresh look and new Drive-E engines.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and the safety story is excellent. If you’re willing to pay more for a fresher feel, the 2015 is the better alternative.
