How much does the 2014 BMW 3 Series cost?

Prices have softened 1.12% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,419 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2014 BMW 3 Series earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.3/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise the fun driving experience, safety features, and modern styling. The user feedback also points to comfort, fuel efficiency in the diesel model, and a spacious interior as recurring positives.

That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a sports sedan that still emphasizes deft handling, sublime steering, and balanced everyday road manners. 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the car’s solid build, comfort, and trouble-free day-to-day use. The expert notes also reinforce that this is a car built around a long-standing formula that many buyers can count on.

BMW’s no-cost maintenance plan helps reduce early ownership friction, which is a useful perk if you’re comparing used examples. For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is that upkeep can become more expensive once the included maintenance window is behind you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or a long option list. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base, Luxury, Sport, and M Sport are the four distinct trim lines, and the Sport and M Sport trims add more aggressive body styling, larger wheels, and stiffer suspensions. The base trim is the one most likely to feel light on extras, since BMW makes many features optional.
• Powertrain: BMW offers 4 engines and 3 transmissions, including 2.0-liter twin-turbo 4-cylinder engines in the 320i and 328i, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder in the 335i, and a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel 4-cylinder in the 328d. The diesel is noted for an EPA-estimated 45-mpg-highway rating.
• Safety package: BMW Assist eCall is standard, along with adaptive brake lamps and automatic brake drying. Blind-spot detection, parking sensors, and even a basic alarm system are not standard.
• Infotainment: The car uses BMW’s iDrive controller with a large color screen, quick-loading menus, Bluetooth streaming audio, a USB connector, and BMW Apps. An automated parallel parking system, head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and a bird’s-eye-view camera system are available.
• Fuel efficiency: The 328d is described as promising an EPA-estimated 45-mpg-highway rating, while the tester in mostly city driving averaged 17 mpg.

Which 2014 BMW 3 Series trim should I buy?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series is offered in 4 trim levels: Base, Luxury, Sport, and M Sport.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the starting point, but it’s also the trim most likely to leave you wanting more because BMW loads many desirable features onto the options list. It makes sense if you want the core driving experience at the lowest entry point.
• Luxury: Choose this if you want a more upscale feel without moving into the more aggressive Sport or M Sport setup. It’s the better fit if comfort and appearance matter more than a firmer chassis tune.
• Sport: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it adds more aggressive styling and a firmer suspension without going all the way to the top trim. It suits you if you want the 3 Series character most clearly expressed.
• M Sport: Pick this if you want the most performance-focused look and feel in the lineup, with the same aggressive styling and suspension emphasis taken further. It’s the right call if you care most about the sportiest presentation.

Safety-wise, BMW Assist eCall is standard, but blind-spot detection, parking sensors, and a basic alarm system are not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 BMW 3 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,419 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.12% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $9,797, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 BMW 3 Series's resale value?

The current average of $10,011 sits slightly below last year's $10,125.

That small decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper upside for a future seller. Even so, the drop is modest rather than dramatic, so this model year is not showing signs of a steep value slide.

If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should still have a reasonable path to resale later. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 BMW 3 Series safe?

The 2014 BMW 3 Series didn’t fare too well in new small-overlap crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and it still gains five overall stars on government crash tests.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW Assist eCall is standard, along with adaptive brake lamps and automatic brake drying. The car also includes the usual airbags and stability control, but a backup camera is not standard, and blind-spot detection and parking sensors are not standard either.

The main caveat is the weak small-overlap result, so you should pay close attention to crash history and repair quality when shopping used examples.

Should I buy a 2014 BMW 3 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 32.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.12% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It still delivers the classic 3 Series formula of deft handling, sublime steering, and balanced road manners.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,327, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,011 average.
• It adds a more premium-feeling sedan focus with a tighter, precise chassis and a wonderfully powerful engine.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because it keeps the core 3 Series driving character while sitting at a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model-year step up, the 2015 is the better secondary path.
