What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or job-site duty. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin and bed, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck choice with a dark plastic grille and front bumper plus basic steel wheels, while the SR5 adds chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The Limited brings leather heated seats, navigation, a power sliding rear window, and more upscale exterior details, while Platinum adds LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, unique stitched interior cladding, and JBL audio.
• Powertrain: The SR starts with a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 and a 5-speed automatic, the SR5 adds a 4.6-liter V8 with 310 horsepower, and Limited and Platinum use a 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is standard, 4WD is available, and the larger V8 is the strongest choice for towing and heavy-duty use.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Higher trims use Toyota’s Entune system, and the Platinum’s setup includes apps for weather, traffic, Pandora streaming, BING web searches, restaurant reservations through OpenTable, and smartphone-based updates for sports, stocks, fuel prices, and weather.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5.7-liter V8 is rated at 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway, with an estimated 15 mpg combined. The best fuel economy comes from the rear-wheel-drive V6 at 16 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, while the rear-wheel-drive 4.6-liter V8 returns 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck trim, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the nicer exterior and cabin upgrades. It comes with the basic styling and the standard V6, so it suits buyers who care more about utility than comfort.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds fog lights, 18-inch wheels, chrome accents, and the 7-inch touchscreen without jumping all the way to the pricier luxury-oriented trims. If you want a more polished daily driver without overspending, this is the one to target.
• Limited: This trim is the right step up if you want leather heated seats, navigation, a power sliding rear window, and the stronger standard V8. It fits you best if you want a more comfortable truck that still feels fully capable.
• Platinum: This is the most upscale choice, with the full Limited equipment plus LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, stitched interior cladding, and JBL audio. Choose it if you want the most premium Tundra experience.

The safety package includes a standard backup camera, with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert available as options.

What is the 2014 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $22,580 sits slightly above last year's $22,187.

That upward move suggests the market still sees value in this truck, which can help support resale strength if you buy carefully. A model year with steady demand and a relatively tight price band can be easier to resell later, especially if you keep mileage and condition in check.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.77% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 blends tough truck capability with enough technology for work and weekend use.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,605, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,580 average.
• TRD Pro adds special suspension and distinctive styling.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction, solid expert approval, and a lower average price. If you’re willing to pay more for a standout special-trim personality, the 2015 is worth a look, especially if TRD Pro equipment matters to you.
