What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage truck or one that has been used for towing or work. Focus on overall condition, signs of hard use, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you want.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck choice with a dark plastic grille, front bumper, and basic steel wheels, while the SR5 adds chrome accents, fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen. The Limited adds leather heated seats, navigation, a power sliding rear window, and more upscale exterior details, while the Platinum adds body-color trim, LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, stitched interior cladding, and JBL audio.
• Powertrain: The base SR uses a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6, the SR5 adds a 4.6-liter V8 with 310 horsepower, and Limited and Platinum trims come standard with a 5.7-liter V8 making 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The truck is described as strong and capable, but fuel economy is a weak point.
• Safety package: The Tundra includes a standard backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Higher trims feature Toyota’s Entune system, including apps for weather, traffic, Pandora streaming radio, BING web searches, restaurant reservations, and smartphone-based updates for sports, stocks, fuel prices, and weather.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck trim, and it makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need much luxury equipment. It is the most stripped-down choice, so it suits buyers who care more about utility than comfort.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen. If you want a better balance of price and equipment, this is the trim to target.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale truck with leather heated seats, navigation, chrome exterior details, and a power sliding rear window. It is the right step up if comfort and convenience matter more than keeping costs down.
• Platinum: This is the most premium version, with body-color exterior treatment, LED daytime running lights, a sunroof, stitched interior cladding, and JBL audio. It suits you if you want the most feature-rich Tundra and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package includes a standard backup camera, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert remains optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right truck.

• Deal availability: 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 902 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.62% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 54.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,440, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $22,549 sits slightly above last year's $22,190.

That upward move suggests the truck has held value reasonably well, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. The current price trend also points to steady buyer interest rather than a softening market, so a clean, well-equipped example should remain easier to move than a neglected one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard safety setup includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional safety equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 28.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 54.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 1.62% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out as a full-size pickup that blends toughness with enough technology for work and weekend use.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,587, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,549 average.
• TRD Pro trim adds special suspension upgrades and distinctive detailing.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you are willing to spend more for a more distinctive setup, the 2015 is the better path.
