What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or work. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin and bed, and whether the truck’s equipment matches the trim you expect.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SR is the work-truck version with a dark plastic grille and front bumper, plus very basic steel wheels. SR5 adds chrome bumper endcaps, chrome grille accents, fog lights, 18-inch 5-spoke wheels, and a 7-inch touchscreen with Entune and satellite radio. Limited adds a unique grille insert, 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome mirrors and door handles, leather heated seats, navigation, and a power sliding rear window. Platinum adds body-color bumper and grille surround, LED daytime running lights, a power sunroof, unique leather stitched interior cladding, and JBL premium audio.
• Powertrain: The base SR comes with a 270-hp 4.0-liter V6 and a 5-speed automatic. SR5 comes standard with a 4.6-liter V8 making 310 horsepower, while Limited and Platinum use the 5.7-liter V8 with 381 horsepower and 401 pound-feet of torque. The truck is described as strong and effective when equipped with the larger V8.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
• Infotainment: Higher trims feature Toyota’s Entune system, which includes apps for weather, traffic, Pandora streaming radio, BING web searches, restaurant reservations through OpenTable, and smartphone-connected updates for sports, stocks, fuel prices, and weather.
• Fuel efficiency: The 5.7-liter V8 gets 13 mpg city and 17 highway, while the best fuel economy comes from the V6 rear-wheel-drive setup at 16 mpg city and 20 highway. The 4.6-liter V8 rear-wheel-drive version gets 15 mpg city and 19 highway.

Which 2014 Toyota Tundra trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra is offered in 4 trim levels: SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• SR: This is the work-truck choice, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest entry price and can live with the most basic exterior and cabin equipment.
• SR5: This is the best-value trim because it adds the most useful everyday upgrades, including fog lights, 18-inch wheels, and the 7-inch Entune touchscreen.
• Limited: Choose this if you want a more upscale truck, with leather heated seats, navigation, chrome exterior details, and a power sliding rear window.
• Platinum: This is the most luxurious version, adding body-color trim, LED daytime running lights, a sunroof, stitched leather interior cladding, and JBL audio.

The safety package includes a standard backup camera, while blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert remains optional.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Tundra?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 924 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,440, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Tundra's resale value?

The current average of $22,419 sits slightly above last year's $22,233.

That small increase suggests the truck has held value fairly well rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability can be helpful because it points to a market that is neither overheating nor collapsing.

The steady pricing also means you may not need to rush a sale, but condition and equipment will still matter a lot. Trucks with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Tundra safe?

The 2014 Toyota Tundra earns four-star ratings in all NHTSA crash tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes a backup camera, front and side impact airbags, a tire pressure monitoring system, and trailer sway control. Optional safety equipment includes proximity parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

The backup camera is a meaningful standard feature for low-speed maneuvering, and the available blind-spot monitoring adds useful coverage if you want more confidence in traffic and parking.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Tundra or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out as a truck that finally fits the full-size pickup role with strong real-world capability.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $23,822, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $22,419 average.
• TRD Pro trim adds special suspension upgrades and distinctive detailing.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because pricing is stable and owner satisfaction is strong. If you want a more distinctive truck and are willing to pay more, the 2015 is worth a look.
