How much does the 2014 Toyota Highlander cost?

There are 1,255 listings available, which suggests you should have a workable amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander a good car?

Yes — the 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its reliability, comfort, and value for money, and they also like the spacious interior and useful features. In use, it fits well as a family crossover for errands, school runs, and weekend drives, with enough power and technology to feel more engaging than a typical family hauler. The main tradeoffs are fuel economy and seat comfort, along with a few missing modern conveniences.

With 34.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe it as reliable, comfortable, and a vehicle they can count on, with the added benefit of useful features and a spacious cabin. The expert review also frames it as a dependable family crossover that balances practicality with enough power and capability for everyday use and weekend trips. Toyota’s ownership-friendly approach is reinforced by the note that the first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Highlander’s core durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear from family use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, safety equipment, and interior condition. Because this model is often used as a family vehicle, pay close attention to seat wear, cabin condition, and whether the features you want are actually present on the trim you’re considering. If you’re shopping a higher-mileage example, make sure the powertrain and AWD hardware feel smooth and well maintained.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LE trim brings standard seating for 8, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and lots of storage cubbies. The LE Plus adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. The XLE adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display in the instrument panel. The Limited adds 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring. The LE Plus is the best-value trim if you want a noticeable upgrade without jumping all the way to the top.
• Powertrain: The base 185-hp 2.7-liter inline 4-cylinder is described as barely enough for the Highlander’s weight. A 3.5-liter V6 is optional on the LE and standard on the LE Plus and above, and it makes 270 hp with a 6-speed automatic. The V6 is the better choice if you want stronger everyday acceleration and more confident passing.
• Safety package: The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. With the available pre-collision system, it is a 2014 Top Safety Pick Plus award winner. Other available driver aids include lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Lower trims miss some of the advanced safety tech.
• Infotainment: Entune is the multimedia touchscreen interface, and it includes apps such as Pandora streaming radio, Yelp, and Bing. The screen is 6.1 inches, and navigation is available, though it is accessed through the app page rather than a dedicated dash button. The text does not mention wireless smartphone integration or over-the-air updates.
• Fuel efficiency: The I4 with FWD gets 20/25 mpg, while FWD V6 trims get 19/25 mpg. The AWD test trim returned 18/24 mpg.

Which 2014 Toyota Highlander trim should I buy?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander is offered in 4 trim levels: LE, LE Plus, XLE, Limited.

Here's the short version:

• LE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Highlander experience with 8-passenger seating, a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a backup camera, Bluetooth hands-free calling, and lots of storage space. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model, but it is also the trim where the feature gaps are most obvious.
• LE Plus: This is the best-value trim because it adds three-zone climate control with rear climate toggles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and SofTex leatherette seating. It feels like the sweet spot if you want a more comfortable and upscale cabin without paying for the top trims.
• XLE: This trim adds navigation, leather seating, and a detailed color digital display in the instrument panel. Choose it if you want a more premium feel and are willing to pay for convenience and presentation.
• Limited: This is the most fully equipped version, with 19-inch wheels, a JBL audio system, and upgraded safety tech like blind-spot monitoring. It suits you best if you want the most features and are willing to pay for them.

The safety package is strongest when the available pre-collision system is equipped, and the Limited adds more advanced driver-assistance tech than the lower trims.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Highlander?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right listing.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,255 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.33% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,943, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Toyota Highlander's resale value?

The current average of $15,461 sits slightly below last year's $15,670.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer now but may also mean sellers need to price competitively. If you plan to resell later, the current trend suggests you should expect steady but not rising values in the near term. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still attract interest because this model has broad family appeal.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Toyota Highlander safe?

The 2014 Toyota Highlander earns a Top Safety Pick Plus award from IIHS when equipped with the available pre-collision system.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The Highlander comes standard with a backup camera, tire pressure monitoring system, and a full array of advanced front and side impact airbags. Available safety tech includes lane-departure warning, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The main caveat is that the strongest safety recognition depends on the available pre-collision system, so you should verify equipment carefully on any used example.

Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Highlander or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.33% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 stands out for combining a more engaging design with strong family usefulness, plus a top expert safety score.

The bottom line: If you want a used Highlander that balances comfort, practicality, and strong safety credentials, the 2014 is a solid path. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully for a lower-mileage, clean-history example, but you should prioritize condition and equipment over chasing the cheapest listing.

How does the 2014 Toyota Highlander compare to the 2014 Honda Pilot?

Our experts score the 2014 Toyota Highlander 8.7/10 and the 2014 Honda Pilot 6.8/10.

The Highlander looks like the stronger all-around choice if you want better fuel economy, a lower average used price, and a higher expert score. The Pilot brings more horsepower, but the Highlander’s combination of safety, value, and broader market availability makes it the more compelling used buy for most shoppers. If you want the better deal on paper, the Pilot’s lower average used price may be tempting, but the Highlander is the more polished and better-rated option.
