Is the 2014 Subaru Outback reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights its reliable performance, long-term durability, and trouble-free ownership for many drivers. That said, you should still approach a used example with care, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on maintenance history and how well the vehicle has been kept up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Subaru Outback?

At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior bodywork, and whether the vehicle has been maintained consistently, since those factors matter more than mileage alone. If a listing looks especially clean and well-priced, make sure the paperwork and inspection support what you see in the photos.

What is the 2014 Subaru Outback's resale value?

The current average of $9,126 sits slightly below last year's $9,711.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, which can limit upside for a future seller in the near term. If you buy well and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may help protect value better than the broader market trend suggests. Demand should remain supported by the model’s practical appeal and strong owner satisfaction.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2014 Subaru Outback or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,709, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $9,126 average.
• It is larger and more refined while keeping standard all-wheel drive.

The bottom line:
Choose the 2014 if you want the lower entry price and a strong mix of practicality, safety, and owner satisfaction. If you can stretch your budget, the 2015 is the better path for buyers who want a newer redesign and are willing to pay more for it.
