CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA
overall

Summary
With 258 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,952.00, 30.6% of 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLAs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA 4.88 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 5.17 / 10.
48.1% of 2014 CLA models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA stands out first for its style. It is described as roomier, more practical, more stylish, and more capable than expected, which gives it an appeal that goes beyond appearance alone. That combination makes it feel like an entry-level luxury car with a strong visual presence and enough everyday usefulness to matter to buyers who want something distinctive.
At the same time, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA is presented as a starter luxury car that emphasizes surface detail and delivers very little substance beneath its skin. It is also framed as not being a prestigious luxury car for $30,000, which tempers the badge appeal with a reminder that the experience is more about image than depth. Owner feedback reinforces the car’s sporty handling, fuel efficiency, quick acceleration, and reliability, while also pointing to a lack of options typical for a Mercedes and some discomfort with the eco button that changes driving behavior.

I absolutely love this car. Couldn’t be happier. Only thing I don’t like is the eco button. I have to turn it off manually each time I start the car cause I don’t like it. It feels like the car jumps every time it kicks in.

Great car. The most powerful 4 cylinder sport car ever made. Feel real comfort in driving. Grip superb, brakes superb. This is one of the best CLA class car one can find to date. Speed pick from 0-70 superfast.

It is a great reliable car, great MPG (40 in Highway for a 8 years-old car!) and great performance - 0-60 in 6.5 seconds even after 8 years. After 3 years and 20,000 miles I have only change the oils, battery, and tires! Highly recommended if youre looking for a sporty reliable car under 20 grands.

How much does the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $10,975 |
| Year-Round Low | $10,773.33 |
| Year-Round High | $12,226.15 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,233 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −10.28% |
Prices have softened 10.28% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 267 listings available, which suggests you have some room to compare prices and condition across the market.
If you find a listing below $10,773.33, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?
Yes — the 4.88/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 5.17/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.
Owners consistently praise the stylish design, sporty handling, fuel efficiency, quick acceleration, and reliability. The overview also frames it as roomier, more practical, more stylish, and more capable than expected, which helps explain why it appeals as an entry-level luxury car with real everyday usefulness.
The 30.7% good-or-great-deal share suggests there are still attractive listings in the market if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?
Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user feedback also points to reliability and a trouble-free ownership experience as recurring positives, alongside the car’s quick acceleration and fuel efficiency.
On the expert side, the performance write-up emphasizes that the powertrain’s torque arrives early and that the fuel-economy numbers are realistic, which supports the idea that the car can be dependable in day-to-day use. The cost-effectiveness notes also say the fuel economy ratings appear accurate.
Long-term ownership risk is still worth weighing, because this model year was new and the expert notes say it was impossible to establish how reliable it might be over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA?
At 46.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in a collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Pay close attention to visibility-related damage, interior condition, and whether the car’s equipment matches what the seller claims. Because this model was offered with a lot of optional equipment, it also pays to confirm exactly what is and isn’t installed.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The test car is described as a CLA250 with 4Matic all-wheel drive, and the write-up notes that it was not a loaded example. It specifically lacked leather seats, wood trim, automatic climate control, a premium sound system, a reversing camera, blind-spot assist, and lane-keeping assist, so you should verify whether a given car has the comfort and safety equipment you want.
- Powertrain: The car uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine with direct fuel injection, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automated manual transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and 4Matic all-wheel drive is available for improved traction.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes rain-sensing wipers, Attention Assist, and a basic Collision Prevention Assist system. A reversing camera, blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and Collision Prevention Assist Plus are available only through option packages.
- Infotainment: The test car had a Becker MapPilot navigation system, Bluetooth hands-free calling with text-message support, and a USB port. The COMAND interface is described as not always intuitive, and the navigation system is slow to respond.
- Fuel efficiency: The performance write-up says the car should return 27 mpg in combined driving, and the test car delivered 26.4 mpg during a week of driving. It also uses Eco Stop/Start technology to help conserve fuel.
Which 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 1 trim level: CLA250.
Here's the short version:
The CLA250 is the trim to focus on if you want the core style-and-brand appeal of this model year. The expert review makes clear that it delivers the car’s defining strengths — strong visual presence, turbocharged performance, and available 4Matic all-wheel drive — while also warning that the standard equipment list is thin unless you add packages. If you want the best value, look for a well-kept CLA250 that already has the features you care about, because adding them later can get expensive.
The safety package note is important here: reversing camera, blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and automatic braking are not standard and require option packages.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and enough deal activity to reward careful shopping.
- Deal availability: 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.28% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 46.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,773.33, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA's resale value?
The current average of $10,975 sits slightly below last year's $12,233.
That price decline suggests the model has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. It also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment, because buyers in this segment tend to compare closely on visible quality and feature content. If you choose a clean example with the right options, you may be better positioned to hold value than if you buy a stripped or heavily worn car.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA safe?
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
The safety write-up says neither the NHTSA nor the IIHS had performed crash tests on this model at the time of review, so there are no crash-test ratings to cite here. Standard equipment does include rain-sensing wipers, Attention Assist, and a basic Collision Prevention Assist system.
You should also note that the car’s visibility is described as challenging because of its swept roofline and small windows, and several useful driver-assistance features are optional rather than standard. If safety equipment matters to you, verify whether the car has the reversing camera, blind-spot assist, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, and Collision Prevention Assist Plus before you buy.
Should I buy a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 30.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 46.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 10.28% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review says this year is more about style and brand appeal than substance, but it also highlights roomier, more practical, more stylish, and more capable-than-expected everyday use.
The bottom line: If you want the lowest-cost path into this model and you’re willing to shop carefully for condition and equipment, the 2014 can make sense. If you want a newer-feeling ownership experience with more standard equipment and a stronger safety story, a different year may be the better fit.
