Is the 2014 Lexus ES a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.8/5 user-rated luxury sedan with an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Cost effectiveness, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its luxurious feel, comfort, smooth ride, and quality performance. The overview also points to a calm, refined daily-driver character that still feels composed on the road, which fits buyers who want comfort without giving up all driving engagement.

The main trade-offs are that it is not especially sporty and the rear seat does not fold down. Even so, the ES’s comfort-first mission and upscale feel make it a strong fit if you want a relaxed luxury sedan for commuting and everyday use.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, there is still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Lexus ES reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviewers also describe it as reliable, and they repeatedly point to its dependable, trouble-free character and the kind of long-term ownership confidence that makes it easy to count on.

The expert summary reinforces that reputation by emphasizing Lexus’s long-standing reliability and the brand’s reputation for affordability of parts. The cost-effectiveness commentary also notes that comfort and reliability remain core strengths even as equipment levels rise.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the powertrain and more about finding a well-kept example with complete maintenance history.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Lexus ES?

At 45.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had bodywork or electronic repairs. Focus on overall condition, signs of prior damage, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected. Because this model can be optioned differently, it also pays to confirm the features you want are actually present on the specific car you’re considering.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The ES 350’s base setup already includes a class-leading 10 airbags, while higher option packages add lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a backup camera.
• Powertrain: The ES 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 268 horsepower and a 6-speed automatic transmission, and it offers Normal, Eco, and Sport driving modes.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a backup camera, but these depend on the option package you choose.
• Infotainment: Lexus uses the Remote Touch controller with an LCD screen and force-feedback cursor control; the system is designed to reduce cabin clutter.
• Fuel efficiency: The ES 350 is described as achieving 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway when driven in Eco mode.

Which 2014 Lexus ES trim should I buy?

The 2014 Lexus ES is offered in 1 trim level: ES 350.

Here's the short version:

The ES 350 is the trim to focus on if you want the core Lexus ES experience: a comfortable ride, strong luxury feel, and a well-rounded V6 powertrain. It is the best-value choice by default because it is the only trim explicitly identified here, and it already delivers the model’s main strengths without needing to chase a higher badge level.

Safety equipment can vary by option package, so make sure you verify whether the car has the driver-assistance features you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Lexus ES?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 487 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.39% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 45.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,390, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Lexus ES's resale value?

The current average of $15,019 sits slightly above last year's $14,668.

That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year, which is a positive sign if you plan to sell later. A stable-to-rising price trend can help support your exit value, especially if you buy at the lower end of the range and keep the car in strong condition.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Lexus ES safe?

The 2014 Lexus ES earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

It comes with a class-leading 10 airbags on the base version, and available safety equipment can include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a backup camera. One caveat is the backup-camera behavior: startup messages can block part of the image right when you shift into reverse, which is worth checking during a test drive.

Because safety features vary by option package, you should confirm exactly which driver-assistance systems are installed on the car you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2014 Lexus ES or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 45.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 2.39% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It balances comfort, a responsive drive, and tight handling while still feeling refined.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $16,492, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $15,019 average.
• It adds a more upscale, refined feel with a slightly more engaging driving character.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it combines strong owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and a more polished feel, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
