Summary
With 159 currently listed for sale near Los Angeles, CA and an average price of $15,246, 14.5% of 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.74 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee stands out because it blends serious off-road ability with a level of everyday usefulness that many SUV shoppers might not expect. Jeep describes it as more than a boulder-bashing lifestyle vehicle, and says it is a more useful tool for daily living than many buyers assume. At the same time, it still wears its Trail Rated badge and is presented as just as unstoppable off-road as almost anything else rolling off an assembly line.
What makes this version especially appealing is the way Jeep frames it as a major step forward in refinement without giving up capability. The company says it made significant progress in improving daily drivability while preserving ultimate off-roading ability, and calls it the most refined and capable Grand Cherokee yet. Owner feedback supports that broad appeal, with praise for the spacious interior, luxurious features, comfortable ride, and high-tech options. Some buyers, though, have noted reliability concerns and expensive repairs associated with certain features, and others have been frustrated by needing specific trim levels to get the capabilities they want.

Its a great looking and driving vehicle. I wish they made the third row in this model. However I always feel like the center of attention when driving a jeep that has that sleek, classic, luxury feel and vibe but also can be rugged and tough, and able to run with boss hogs whether on a trail or the open road. Its great for travel and great for inclement weather. What other car does what the Jeep Grand Cherokee does then or now? Not a one. Because Jeep is a stand alone Grand type of ride!

It’s very spacious and very light at the wheel. As you drive the car it feels like you’re floating and at peace. In my opinion the car lacks nothing and that was my first time driving a jeep and I highly recommend!!!!

The summit is the luxury model and the trim is too notch with a 5.7 hemi to go along with it . The only issues would be the air suspension has problems so get a warranty.

Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee a good car?
Yes — you’re looking at a 4.74/5 user-rated SUV with an expert score of 7.5/10. The standout strength is Technology at 10/10. Owners repeatedly praise the spacious interior, luxurious features, comfortable ride, and high-tech options, while the overview frames it as a useful daily SUV that still delivers serious capability. That mix makes it appealing if you want something that can handle everyday driving without giving up the Grand Cherokee’s rugged personality. The market also shows 31.3% of listings as good or great deals, which adds to the appeal for shoppers comparing value.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee reliable?
Owners rate it 4.74/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a vehicle that many drivers find dependable in daily use, with praise for its comfortable ride and strong overall ownership experience. The expert review adds that Jeep made meaningful progress in daily drivability while preserving off-road capability, and it notes average predicted reliability from major forecasting sources. Jeep also says the Grand Cherokee includes over 70 safety- and security-related features, which can help support confidence in ownership. Still, used buyers should plan for the possibility of higher repair costs and verify that any feature-heavy example has been maintained carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has off-road equipment or advanced driver-assistance features. Focus on signs of wear in the suspension, steering, brakes, and any electronics tied to luxury or convenience equipment. If you’re shopping a higher-trim example, make sure the features you want are actually present and functioning.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Jeep serves the Grand Cherokee in five flavors: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT. The base setup is the least equipped, while higher trims add more luxury and technology; the SRT is the performance-oriented model, and the review notes that some capabilities require specific trim levels.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a 290-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 paired with a new 8-speed automatic transmission. The review also mentions a clean-diesel V6 and available V8 powertrains, along with fuel-economy gains from the new transmission.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance tech includes Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection, Trailer Sway Control, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, run-flat tires and Call 9-1-1 services. Some items depend on trim level.
- Infotainment: The optional Uconnect Access system uses an 8.4-inch color touchscreen and adds mobile Wi-Fi access, Bluetooth music streaming, hands-free text messaging and Emergency Call/9-1-1 service.
- Fuel efficiency: The review cites a 19-mpg combined EPA rating and a mixed-driving test average of 18.8 mpg.
Which 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee trim should I buy?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is offered in 5 trim levels: Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and SRT.
Here's the short version:
- Laredo: This is the entry point, so it makes the most sense if you want the Grand Cherokee name and capability without paying for extra luxury equipment.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more upscale cabin and the kind of equipment that makes the Grand Cherokee feel more polished day to day.
- Overland: Choose this if you want a stronger luxury lean and more of the premium feel that helps separate the Grand Cherokee from more basic SUVs.
- Summit: This is the trim to target if you want the most upscale version of the standard lineup, with the richest feature set mentioned in the review.
- SRT: Pick this only if you want the performance-oriented model; the review describes it as built for pavement performance rather than general luxury value.
Safety equipment and advanced driver-assistance features vary by trim level, so verify exactly which systems are included on the vehicle you’re considering.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,703 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 58.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,658, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee's resale value?
The current average of $10,683 sits slightly below last year's $11,623.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be helpful if you’re buying now but less favorable if you’re planning to sell soon. A softer price trend usually means future resale gains may be limited unless the vehicle is especially well kept or unusually well equipped. Strong demand can still support value, though, especially for examples with desirable trims and clean histories.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.74/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee safe?
The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee earns four-star ratings in rollover resistance for 4WD models, and four-star ratings overall from NHTSA. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gives it the highest rating of Good in 4 of its 5 evaluations.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Jeep says the Grand Cherokee offers over 70 safety- and security-related features, including standard rain-brake support, ready-alert braking and a driver knee airbag. Available systems include Forward Collision Warning with Crash Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, advanced brake assist, Blind Spot Detection with Rear Cross Path Detection, Trailer Sway Control, rain-sensing wipers, adaptive headlights, run-flat tires and Call 9-1-1 services. Some of those features depend on trim level. The review also notes that the Grand Cherokee had not yet been evaluated in the IIHS small overlap frontal-impact test at the time.
Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 58.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.74/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- This year emphasizes refinement, daily drivability and preserved off-road capability.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $11,723, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,683 average.
- It adds a wider range of trims and engines for more buyer choice.
The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for broader trim and engine choice, the 2015 is the better alternative.
