Used 2014 Jeep Cherokee for Sale nearRockford, IL

How much does the 2014 Jeep Cherokee cost?

Prices have softened 6.49% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,253 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare by trim, mileage, and condition.

Is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee a good car?

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is a mixed but appealing choice, and its 3.86/5 user rating alongside a 7.5/10 expert rating reflects that balance. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, Technology, and Safety.

Owners repeatedly point to its comfort, stylish design, and good features, especially in higher trims. The expert review also highlights its performance, foul-weather handling, comfort, and materials, which fits the Cherokee’s role as a more versatile crossover than Jeep’s older, boxier utility vehicles.

If you want a comfortable, well-equipped crossover with strong capability, this one fits that use case well. If you’re prioritizing base-engine refinement or long-term ownership confidence, the mixed owner feedback is worth weighing carefully.

About 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee reliable?

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is described as a comfortable crossover with strong capability, but owner feedback is mixed on reliability and feature quality. Many owners call it reliable and appreciate its comfort and interior quality, while others report concerns with the 4-cylinder engine and some features.

The expert review also notes that the launch was rocky and delayed because of initial quality concerns, which is worth keeping in mind if you’re shopping used. Jeep’s 5-year/100,000-mile powertrain coverage and roadside assistance help, but long-term ownership risk is still something you should factor in when comparing higher-mileage examples.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Jeep Cherokee?

At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-trim or more heavily optioned example. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, worn interior features, and any evidence that the drivetrain or electronics have been stressed. Because owner feedback is mixed, condition matters a lot more than the badge on the tailgate.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Sport comes with Bluetooth connectivity and streaming audio, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a 5-inch touchscreen Uconnect system with voice control, USB and auxiliary inputs, and 17-inch steel wheels. Latitude adds fog lights, roof rails, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, a fold-flat front passenger seat with storage, leather accent trim, and 17-inch alloy wheels. Limited adds automatic headlights, heated mirrors with integrated turn signals, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, an 8.4-inch Uconnect screen, push-button start, and 18-inch alloys. Trailhawk is the off-road-focused trim with a standard full-time 4WD system, locking rear axle, skid plates, raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and hill-descent control.

• Powertrain: Standard models use a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine with 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic. An optional 3.2-liter V6 makes 271 hp and 239 lb-ft of torque and is available on Latitude and above, but not on Sport. Fuel economy is competitive for the class, with FWD versions rated up to 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway for the 4-cylinder, while 4WD and Trailhawk setups reduce those figures.

• Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, hill-start assist, a rear-view camera, front active head restraints, bright LED taillights, and emergency response services through Uconnect. The optional Technology Group adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure and forward-collision systems, intelligent cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and parallel and perpendicular self-parking. It is restricted to Limited and Trailhawk models.

• Infotainment: The Cherokee uses Uconnect, with a 5-inch touchscreen on lower trims and an 8.4-inch screen on Limited and Trailhawk. The system includes voice control, and the upgraded setup also serves as the hub for the rear-view camera and other vehicle functions. It can act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and phone pairing is described as quick and easy.

• Fuel efficiency: The 2.4-liter 4-cylinder is rated up to 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway in FWD form, while Active Drive I 4WD lowers that to 21 mpg city and 28 mpg highway. The 3.2-liter V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway in FWD form, with Active Drive I trimming the highway figure by 1 mpg. Trailhawk and Active Drive II setups reduce efficiency further.

Which 2014 Jeep Cherokee trim should I buy?

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee is offered in 4 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, Trailhawk.

Here's the short version:

• Sport: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Cherokee experience at the lowest price. You get Bluetooth, streaming audio, a 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and the standard 2.4-liter engine, but you miss out on many of the comfort and convenience upgrades found higher up the range.

• Latitude: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a more useful mix of comfort and convenience features without jumping all the way to the top end. The fog lights, roof rails, power outlet, fold-flat passenger seat, and alloy wheels make it feel more complete than the Sport.

• Limited: If you want the Cherokee to feel properly equipped, this is the trim that delivers the strongest everyday appeal. The rear-view camera, heated front seats, heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and larger 8.4-inch screen make it the most polished on-road choice.

• Trailhawk: Choose this if you want the most off-road-oriented Cherokee. Its standard full-time 4WD system, locking rear axle, skid plates, raised suspension, all-terrain tires, and hill-descent control set it apart from the rest of the lineup.

The safety-oriented Technology Group is restricted to Limited and Trailhawk models.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Jeep Cherokee?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,253 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 59.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $8,680, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee's resale value?

The current average of $8,680 sits slightly below last year's $9,283.

That decline suggests the Cherokee has become more affordable for used buyers, but it also means sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you own one and plan to sell, condition and trim will matter a lot, especially because shoppers can compare against a fairly large pool of listings.

For future resale, higher-trim examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than base models, but the mixed reliability reputation may keep values from rising quickly. If you’re buying now, that softer pricing can work in your favor; if you’re selling later, expect buyers to be selective.

Is the 2014 Jeep Cherokee safe?

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee earned a spot on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Picks list.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes 10 airbags, 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, hill-start assist, a rear-view camera, front active head restraints, bright LED taillights, and emergency response services through Uconnect. The optional Technology Group adds blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure and forward-collision systems, intelligent cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and parallel and perpendicular self-parking.

The main caveat is that some of the most advanced driver-assistance features are bundled into an optional package and limited to higher trims, so you’ll want to verify exactly what’s installed on any used example you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2014 Jeep Cherokee or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 30.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.49% compared with last year.
• The 2014 stands out for its versatile crossover character, strong foul-weather handling, and broad appeal beyond its polarizing styling.

The bottom line: If you want the Cherokee’s comfort, capability, and lower current pricing, the 2014 is a reasonable place to shop. If you’re especially sensitive to reliability concerns or want a newer version with more refined standard equipment, it makes sense to compare nearby model years before you commit.
