CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Ford Mustang
overall

Summary
With 1,137 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,012.00, 29.1% of 2014 Ford Mustangs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Ford Mustang 4.86 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7 / 10.
59.3% of 2014 Mustang models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Ford Mustang stands out as the culmination of five decades of engineering development, and it is presented as the best the Pony car has ever been. That long-running evolution is part of its appeal: it blends the Mustang’s classic identity with a level of refinement that makes it feel more complete than a nostalgia act. Buyers drawn to the Mustang’s heritage will find that this version still leans into the car’s traditional character while benefiting from years of development.
Its strongest calling card is performance. Under hard acceleration, the 5.0-liter engine pulls eagerly deep into redline territory, and it does so without a significant amount of rear-end squat. That combination suggests a car that feels lively and composed when driven hard, which helps explain why it remains attractive to enthusiasts. At the same time, the Mustang is not without compromises, and owner feedback points to cramped back seats and smaller trunk space in some models as practical drawbacks.

Amazing car, very fun to drive with just enough amount of power. Small and compact which makes it easy to maneuver. This is my daily driver and I love it and yes a V8 has superior performance but I dont race so this is perfect.

How much does the 2014 Ford Mustang cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,118 |
| Year-Round Low | $14,319.49 |
| Year-Round High | $16,100.56 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $15,114 |
| Change vs. Last Year | +6.64% |
Prices are up 6.64% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.
There are 1,185 listings available, which gives you a decent amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
If you find a listing below $14,319.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang a good car?
Yes — it earns a 4.86/5 user rating, and the expert rating is 7.00/10. The model scores 8/10 across Look and feel, Performance, and Cost effectiveness.
Drivers consistently praise the powerful performance, classic design, thrilling driving experience, and impressive handling. The sleek look and exhaust sound also come up repeatedly, which fits the Mustang’s heritage-driven appeal.
For you, that means this model year makes the most sense if you want a traditional sports-car feel with strong enthusiast appeal rather than maximum practicality. The market also shows 28.8% good or great deals, so there are still some attractive listings if you shop carefully.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang reliable?
Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. User feedback also points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers especially valuing the car’s long-term appeal, powerful performance, and classic design.
The expert review also describes the Mustang as above average for dependability, which supports the idea that it can be a solid used buy if it has been maintained well. Ford’s first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs a bit.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is not a lack of appeal but the possibility that hard use, skipped maintenance, or wear from spirited driving could show up later.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, tire wear, brake condition, and signs of abuse or poor repair quality. Because this model is often bought for performance, a careful mechanical check matters as much as cosmetic condition.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car uses a 6-cylinder engine, cruise control, stainless steel dual exhaust, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the V6 Premium adds leather upholstery, SYNC, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, aluminum interior trim, premium audio with satellite radio, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. The GT trims step up to a 5.0-liter powerplant, with coupe and convertible body styles, and add features such as touchscreen navigation, upgraded Brembo brakes, a programmable key, upgraded audio with a trunk-mounted subwoofer, HID headlights, functional hood vents, and 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a 3.7-liter V6 with 305 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque, and it can return an EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway with the manual transmission. The GT uses a 5.0-liter V8 with 420 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque, and the automatic version is rated at 18 city, 25 highway, and 20 combined.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available 6-speed manual transmission, and 4 airbags. The car does not include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes Ford’s SYNC AppLink technology for hands-free calling and voice control of apps on linked mobile devices. An available Electronics Package adds a touchscreen and voice-controlled navigation system with SiriusXM real-time traffic information, HD radio, a 6-month Travel Link subscription, and dual-zone automatic climate control. A rear-view camera is also available.
- Fuel efficiency: The V6 with the manual transmission is rated at 31 mpg on the highway. The GT automatic is rated at 18 city, 25 highway, and 20 combined, while the GT Premium Convertible is noted at 26 mpg on the highway in comparison testing.
Which 2014 Ford Mustang trim should I buy?
The 2014 Ford Mustang is offered in 4 trim levels: base, V6 Premium, GT, GT Premium.
Here's the short version:
- base: This is the least expensive path into the Mustang, and it gives you the core V6 setup plus cruise control, HID headlights, and 17-inch alloy wheels. It makes sense if you want the Mustang look and feel at the lowest entry price.
- V6 Premium: This is the best-value trim if you want a more comfortable daily driver, because it adds leather upholstery, SYNC, premium audio with satellite radio, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
- GT: This is the right choice if performance is your priority, since it brings the 5.0-liter V8, Brembo brakes, upgraded audio, navigation, and larger wheels. It is the trim to target if you want the strongest enthusiast character.
- GT Premium: This is the most complete version in the lineup, combining the GT’s V8 hardware with the added comfort and convenience features that make the car feel more polished.
The safety package is limited, so even higher trims do not add the advanced driver-assistance features you might expect in newer cars.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Ford Mustang?
This is still a seller’s market, so you should act selectively and be ready to move when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,185 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.64% year-over-year.
- Clean inventory: 59.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $14,319.49, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Ford Mustang's resale value?
The current average of $16,118 sits slightly above last year's $15,114.
That upward move suggests the market has been willing to pay more for this model year, which can help support resale strength if you buy well and keep the car in good condition. The Mustang’s enthusiast appeal also helps it stay relevant with shoppers who want a classic sports-car identity.
For you, the key resale takeaway is that clean, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than rough or heavily modified ones. A strong purchase price matters, but condition will matter just as much when it is your turn to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Ford Mustang safe?
The 2014 Ford Mustang Convertible has not had published IIHS results for this model year, and NHTSA has awarded it five-star rollover protection.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes 4-wheel antilock disc brakes, AdvanceTrac with electronic stability control, hill-start assist with the available 6-speed manual transmission, and 4 airbags. The car does not include blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, or lane-departure warning.
For you, that means the Mustang covers the basics but lacks the advanced driver-assistance tech that many newer used cars offer. If safety tech is a top priority, you should weigh that limitation carefully.
Should I buy a 2014 Ford Mustang or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 28.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices are up 6.64% year-over-year.
- Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 is presented as the culmination of five decades of Mustang development.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $20,227, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $16,118 average.
- It brings a redesigned body and a big improvement in dynamics and technology.
The bottom line: If you want the lower-priced, well-liked version with strong enthusiast appeal, the 2014 is the easier buy to justify. If you can stretch your budget and want the newer redesign with more modern dynamics and tech, the 2015 is the better long-term alternative. For price-sensitive buyers, the 2014 remains the smarter value play as long as you verify history and condition carefully.
