CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 525 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,763.00, 21.7% of 2014 Dodge Chargers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Dodge Charger 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
50.7% of 2014 Charger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Dodge Charger stands out for blending full-size muscle-car presence with everyday practicality. Its big, red, hulking shape makes a strong first impression, yet the car is described as a far more sophisticated machine than its retro shell may suggest. It also wears a name and silhouette that recall the classic Charger while adding four doors, which gives it a distinctive mix of style and usability.
Under the hood, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is described as an award-winning powerplant that moves the 3,964-pound Charger quite quickly. In this form, the car reaches 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which helps explain why it can feel genuinely quick even without stepping up to the more powerful V8 versions. That said, the V6 model is still noted as not quite as powerful as the R/T and SRT variants, so buyers looking at this version get strong performance without the full upper-end muscle of the range.
Owners also praise the 2014 Dodge Charger for its power and performance, along with a smooth ride. Features such as the sunroof, heated seats, and Beats audio are recurring favorites. A potential drawback is fuel economy, which some reviewers see as a downside.

I purchased a 2014 RT Plus AWD Charger with 67,000 miles. It required one $800 repair to a part of the engine performed expertly by AAMCO (forget about bringing it to the dealership to be repaired; youll only be ripped off.) The car served me very well until an accident at 82,000 miles without any other repairs. Ive seen Chargers for sale with up to 152,000 miles and still going. Its a great car if you can find one starting around the 70,000/80,000 mile range or less!

The car has great low mileage. The baby has some nicks and scratches, but nothing surprising for a 2014. The engine and undercarriage looks like show room material. After searching different web sites, I found this one to be the best value. It would be nice to have a sun roof, but I am pleased with its features. I would compare the 8 speed to a mustang or camaro.

Great car! I had the 2014 r/t All wheel drive. If I had it to do over, I never would’ve gotten rid of it. The only thing I was going to do is get leather done on the seats. Car always ran great and was very fun to drive.

The owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable and worth counting on, especially if you value strong performance and a smooth ride over the long haul. The expert notes reinforce that impression by describing the Charger as a sophisticated machine rather than just a retro-style sedan.
The main ownership risk for you is that a used example may have been driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?
At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on bodywork, electronics, and any signs of uneven wear. Focus on how the car has been maintained and whether the features you care about still work as intended.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The SE includes 164 standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver's seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. The SXT adds more equipment and sits above the base trim, while the R/T and SRT bring much more power.
- Powertrain: The base V6 is paired with an 8-speed automatic in the test vehicle and is described as surprisingly quick, with 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. V8 options are available in higher trims, but they come with a fuel-economy penalty.
- Safety package: The Charger offers lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, a backup camera, and rear cross-path warning. Some of these features are available rather than standard, so check the exact equipment on the car you’re considering.
- Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is described as simple and easy to use. The available Beats By Dre stereo can be paired with a smartphone via Bluetooth, and the car includes a USB audio auxiliary jack.
- Fuel efficiency: The base rear-wheel-drive V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city and 27 highway. V6 models with the 8-speed automatic achieve 19/31, while the all-wheel-drive SXT with the 8-speed auto is estimated at 18/27.
Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Charger’s core style plus the standard LED taillights, power 6-way driver's seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. It makes sense if you want the look and basic functionality at the lowest starting price.
- SXT: This is the best-value trim if you want the Charger’s personality with more everyday appeal. The test vehicle’s SXT adds a more upscale feel and pairs the V6 with an 8-speed automatic, which helps the car feel quicker and more refined.
- R/T: Step up here if you want the 5.7-liter V8 and stronger straight-line performance. It suits you if power matters more than fuel economy.
- SRT: This is the top performance choice, with the 392-cubic-inch V8 and the highest starting price. It’s for you if you want the most aggressive version of the Charger.
The safety content points to a broad available driver-assistance suite, but you should verify which features are standard on the exact trim you’re shopping.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Dodge Charger?
The market looks moderately favorable if you’re a selective buyer.
- Deal availability: 22.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 536 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 51.7% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,415.40, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Dodge Charger's resale value?
The current average of $10,718 sits slightly below last year's $11,537.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help if you buy now and hold it for a while. If demand stays steady, a lower entry price can improve your odds of limiting future loss when you resell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Charger includes standard airbags and traction control, plus available lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, a backup camera, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is highlighted as especially crisp and useful, which is a real plus when you’re backing out in a large sedan.
One caveat is that the forward warning system can be oversensitive, so you may need to get used to filtering out occasional false alerts. That makes it worth checking how the safety tech behaves during your test drive.
Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 22.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 51.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.09% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 combines full-size muscle-car presence with everyday practicality.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $12,976, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,718 average.
- It brings a sleeker front and brighter rear end.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the stronger buy because it costs less and still delivers the Charger’s core appeal. If you’re willing to spend more for updated styling, the 2015 is the cleaner alternative, but the 2014 is the smarter choice for price-sensitive shoppers.
