How much does the 2016 Dodge Challenger cost?

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, unique styling, and spacious interior. The overview also points to its retro look and everyday usability, which makes it appealing if you want a style-first muscle car that still works as a daily driver. Even with some complaints about interior quality and visibility, the market still shows 27.7% good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile listings to consider.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback repeatedly points to a dependable ownership experience built around strong performance, a satisfying driving feel, and engine options that keep the car appealing over time. The expert performance notes also emphasize responsive grace from the 8-speed automatic and strong real-world capability from the base V6 and higher-output V8s. The available first scheduled maintenance visit is on the house, which helps early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some examples may have been driven hard, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Challenger?

At 53.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, tires, headlights, and interior condition. Because some owners mention limited visibility and cheap-feeling materials, it’s worth checking for wear, repairs, and signs of poor upkeep. Focus on how the car was used and whether any prior damage was properly repaired.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SXT includes keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights with LED halo running lights, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, 2-tone cloth, a tilt-and-telescoping leather-wrapped wheel, a 6-way power driver’s seat, and a 5-inch touchscreen. The Plus version adds a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and voice command, satellite radio, a power-adjustable steering wheel, leather upholstery with heated and vented front seats, a heated steering wheel, upgraded alternator, upgraded stereo, and fog lights.
• Powertrain: The base 3.6-liter V6 makes 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque and returns 19 mpg city and 30 highway. Higher trims move to V8 power, including a 5.7-liter engine, a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 707 hp.
• Safety package: The Driver Convenience Group adds bi-xenon headlights, power-folding mirrors, rear parking sensors, blind-spot warning, and rear cross-path alert. SRT and above trims can also add the Technology Group for automatic wipers, high-beams, and forward-collision warning.
• Infotainment: Base models get a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, auxiliary and USB inputs, and an SD card slot. Plus trims add an 8.4-inch touchscreen with voice command, satellite radio, and smartphone integration, and navigation is available.
• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 returns 19 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 can return 15 mpg city and 23 highway with the manual or 16 mpg city and 25 highway with the automatic. The 6.4-liter V8 and supercharged 6.2-liter V8 are performance-first choices.

Which 2016 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Challenger is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, R/T, SXT Plus, R/T Plus, SRT 392.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value play if you want the Challenger’s look and everyday usability without chasing V8 power. You still get keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights, dual-zone climate control, and a touchscreen, so it covers the basics well.
• R/T: This is the best fit if you want the classic muscle-car experience, because it adds V8 power plus a rear-view camera, 20-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, and a spoiler. It’s the trim that most clearly delivers the Challenger’s core personality.
• SXT Plus: This is the better choice if you want the base V6 but also want a more upscale cabin and better tech. The larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, leather, heated and vented front seats, and heated steering wheel make it the more comfortable daily driver.
• R/T Plus: This is the best-value trim if you want V8 performance and the richer feature set together. It layers in the larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, leather, heated and vented seats, and upgraded audio without jumping all the way to the high-performance trims.
• SRT 392: This is the pick if you want the most serious naturally aspirated performance in the lineup. It adds bigger Brembo brakes, forged alloy wheels, adaptive suspension, sport steering, and the 18-speaker Harman Kardon stereo.

The Driver Convenience Group is the key safety-package add-on to look for, especially if you want blind-spot warning, rear cross-path alert, and parking sensors.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Challenger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,251 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.20% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,476, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $23,724 sits slightly below last year's $24,257.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. If you plan to sell later, the softer trend means you should expect pricing pressure unless your car is especially clean, well maintained, and attractively equipped. Strong condition and desirable trim choices matter more when the market is drifting down.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger safe?

The 2016 Dodge Challenger earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal impacts.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Challenger can be equipped with blind-spot warning, rear cross-path alert, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, a rear-view camera, and parking sensors. The available Driver Convenience Group adds several of those driver-assistance features, while the Technology Group adds automatic wipers and high-beams. The lower frontal-impact rating is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 27.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.20% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds fresh trim and wheel options, plus the shaker hood.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $21,008, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $23,724 average.
• It blends retro style with everyday livability.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,543, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $23,724 average.
• All-wheel drive broadens appeal for calmer daily driving.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, performance, and current-market availability, the 2016 is the best starting point. If price matters most, the 2015 and 2017 can save you money, but the 2016 gives you the most balanced shopping target.

How does the 2016 Dodge Challenger compare to the 2016 Ford Mustang?

Our experts score the 2016 Dodge Challenger 7.8/10 and the 2016 Ford Mustang 7.5/10.

The Challenger is the more authentic muscle car, with stronger straight-line character and a more spacious cabin. The Mustang is cheaper on the used market and has more listings, so it may be the easier buy if you want to spend less and shop more inventory. If you care most about retro presence and V8 personality, the Challenger has the edge; if value and availability matter more, the Mustang is the practical alternative.
