How much does the 2016 Dodge Challenger cost?

There are 1,210 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Dodge Challenger earns a 4.8/5 user rating and a 7.8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Performance at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, unique styling, and spacious interior. That lines up with the Challenger’s use case as a retro muscle coupe that still feels usable day to day, especially if you want strong presence without giving up cabin room. The market also shows 31.7% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger reliable?

User feedback points to a dependable ownership experience built around strong performance, satisfying engine choices, and a car many owners feel good about keeping. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Challenger keeps getting better over time, which supports the sense that it’s a car you can count on if you choose a well-kept example. If you buy used, the main long-term risk is less about the core drivetrain and more about finding one that hasn’t been worn down by hard use or neglected maintenance.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Challenger?

At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of bodywork, tires, brakes, and any signs of prior repair. Because this car is often driven for its performance and image, condition matters a lot: look closely at how the interior has held up, whether the electronics work properly, and whether the car has been maintained consistently.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base SXT models include keyless entry and ignition, automatic headlights with LED halo running lights, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 5-inch touchscreen, and a 6-speaker audio system. Higher trims add features like a larger 8.4-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, leather upholstery, heated and vented front seats, upgraded audio, and fog lights.
• Powertrain: The lineup starts with a 3.6-liter V6 making 305 hp, then moves to V8 options including a 5.7-liter engine, a 6.4-liter V8, and a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 in Hellcat form. The V6 returns 19 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 6.4-liter setup is tuned for much stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning. Some of these features are limited to higher trims or packages.
• Infotainment: Base models use a 5-inch touchscreen, while Plus trims add an 8.4-inch touchscreen with voice command, satellite radio, and smartphone integration. A navigation system is available, and some trims can add performance data displays.
• Fuel efficiency: The base V6 is rated at 19 mpg city and 30 highway, while the 5.7-liter V8 can return 15 mpg city and 23 highway with the manual or 16 mpg city and 25 highway with the automatic. The Hellcat is rated at 13/22 with the automatic and 13/21 with the manual.

Which 2016 Dodge Challenger trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Challenger is offered in 5 trim levels: SXT, R/T, R/T Plus, SRT 392, Hellcat.

Here's the short version:

• SXT: This is the value play if you want the Challenger’s style and standard equipment without stretching the budget. It gives you the core retro-muscle experience, and the base setup already includes useful everyday features.
• R/T: This is the best-value upgrade if you want the classic V8 muscle-car feel. It adds the 5.7-liter V8 and a rear-view camera, making it the most straightforward step up for buyers who care most about performance.
• R/T Plus: Choose this if you want the V8 experience plus a more upscale cabin. It adds the larger touchscreen, smartphone integration, leather, heated and vented front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
• SRT 392: This is for you if you want serious performance hardware and a more focused setup. It adds the 6.4-liter V8, bigger brakes, adaptive suspension, and available driver-assistance tech.
• Hellcat: This is the extreme choice if outright power is your priority. It adds the supercharged V8 and the most aggressive hardware in the lineup.

Safety-package note: blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning are available on select trims and packages, not every version.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Challenger?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,210 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.02% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 51.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $22,482, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Challenger's resale value?

The current average of $23,722 sits slightly below last year's $24,210.

That tells you the market has eased a bit, which can make the car more attractive to buyers but slightly less favorable for sellers trying to maximize return. If you own one, pricing competitively matters more now than it did a year ago. Well-kept examples should still draw interest because the Challenger’s appeal is tied to its strong identity and broad enthusiast demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Challenger safe?

The 2016 Dodge Challenger earns a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Challenger’s available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, a rear-view camera, and parking sensors. Standard safety equipment includes airbags, traction control, and stability control. The lower frontal crash rating is the main caveat to keep in mind.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Challenger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 51.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.02% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds fresh trim and wheel options, plus the shaker hood, while keeping the most authentic retro-muscle character.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $21,019, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $23,722 average.
• It blends retro style with everyday usability.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $20,738, the 2017 costs less than the current year's $23,722 average.
• All-wheel drive broadens its appeal and makes it more usable.

The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of character, market availability, and current pricing, the 2016 is the one to target. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 and 2017 can save you money, but the 2016 remains the sweet spot for shoppers who want the classic Challenger formula with updated options.

How does the 2016 Dodge Challenger compare to the 2016 Ford Mustang?

Our experts score the 2016 Dodge Challenger 7.8/10 and the 2016 Ford Mustang 7.5/10.

The Challenger brings more horsepower in base V6 form, better city and highway mpg, and a more spacious, retro-focused personality. The Mustang is cheaper on the used market and has more listings, so it may be easier to shop if price and selection matter most. If you want the more authentic muscle-car feel, the Challenger has the edge; if you want a lower entry price, the Mustang is the more budget-friendly pick.
