CarGurus Analysis: 2014 BMW 6 Series

Summary
With 238 currently listed for sale and an average price of $15,357, 31.9% of 2014 BMW 6 Series models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 BMW 6 Series 4.67 / 5 stars.
55.9% of 2014 BMW 6 Series models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 BMW 6 Series stands out as a stylish, performance-focused luxury car that blends strong acceleration with a polished driving experience. In this generation, BMW offered a coupe, convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe, and the lineup was built around a clear grand-touring mission: comfort, speed, and a premium cabin. The car’s appeal also comes from its character. It is described as engaging and vigorous to drive, and its styling has aged better than some of BMW’s more controversial designs.
For 2014, the 6 Series lineup had already expanded beyond the original V8-only setup. BMW added the 640i in 2013, and by 2014 the mainstream cars used an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 640i was the less powerful choice, but it was also cheaper to buy and maintain and less trouble-prone than the V8. Buyers could also choose the Alpina B6, which used a version of the 4.4-liter V8 with different turbochargers and interior and exterior upgrades, making it faster and more luxurious than the M6. BMW did not change much mechanically from 2014 onward, but the car had already received a visual refresh in 2015 and a tech update in 2016 with a 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen running iDrive 6.0.
The tradeoff is that the 6 Series is not a simple ownership proposition. It is expensive to maintain, and the back seat is snug even in the Gran Coupe. Still, for buyers who want a glamorous, rewarding grand tourer with real presence, the 2014 BMW 6 Series offers a compelling mix of luxury, performance, and exclusivity.

I owned a 2009, but this one rides and handles completely differently. The ride is incredible! You feel like youre riding in a luxury sedan. The Sport and Sport+ modes make thinks a little harsher, but the car still seems to float down the road. The steering, though responsive, doesnt have that planted feel. Even in Sport+ mode. Where this car shines is the motor/transmission. You know that the power is always there right under your foot. The transmission shifts smoothly and always knows the right gear. This is my daily driver, and I drive a lot (`800 miles a week), and I am with this car those miles will just slip away...

Although being a two convertible makes it seem hard to be a family car. However, this model is big enough for a family of three because of roomy interior and head clearance it offers in its class, its a winner.

Picked up the 2014 BMW 640i convertible in Portland OR and drove down the west coast back to Phoenix metro. The car performed great with spirited driving while maintaining 28+ mpg. The car was comfortable driving 6-8 hours per day and offers a number of features / options hard to live without. The twin turbo six cylinder provided great performance with no lag.

It is a great value these days. Just keep in mind the 650 will be costly to maintain the twin turbo v8 while the 640 has decent power and better reliability.

Is the 2014 BMW 6 Series reliable?
Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a car that feels smooth, luxurious, and impressive in daily use, while describing it as dependable enough to inspire confidence over time. Some owners do caution about maintenance costs, so the main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is budgeting carefully for upkeep rather than expecting low-cost ownership.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 BMW 6 Series?
At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with prior damage. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on body condition, repair quality, and signs of deferred maintenance. Because this model is positioned as a premium performance car, condition matters as much as mileage when you compare listings.

What is the 2014 BMW 6 Series's resale value?
The current average of $15,357 sits slightly below last year's $16,773.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on how well your car is presented and maintained. Clean history, strong condition, and documented upkeep should matter more than ever if you want to protect value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 BMW 6 Series or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 31.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 54.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.44% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: If you want the best mix of value, style, and owner satisfaction, the 2014 is a solid primary target. If you are especially price-sensitive, you can also compare nearby years, but the 2014 already offers a favorable combination of softened pricing and strong owner approval, so it makes sense to start here and only move on if you find a cleaner or better-equipped alternative at a similar price.
