Overview
The 2008 Taurus X might sound like a new vehicle in Ford's lineup, but it's actually a revamped Ford Freestyle, a crossover vehicle introduced in 2005 and based on the Volvo XC90. Ford didn't have much luck with the Freestyle, but the automaker hopes that by rebadging the vehicle as the Taurus X, it can boost sales in what it considers a fast-growing automotive segment.
That strategy just might work, since the Taurus is a familiar name to most drivers. Also likely to help boost sales is the fact that the 2008 Taurus X received the designation of Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. To receive this designation, the Taurus X earned the Institute's highest rating in front, side, and rear impact tests, largely as a result of improvements to the platform made for the 2008 model year.
Many drivers and critics considered the old Freestyle to be underpowered, but that's been remedied in the Taurus X as well, thanks to a new 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 260 horsepower, up 57 horsepower from the previous year's Freestyle. Other features for the new Taurus X include a standard AdvanceTrac traction control system, a Safety Canopy System, and an available Ford SYNC System. The seven-passenger vehicle has three rows of seats and an optional power rear liftgate.
In addition, the Taurus X is available in a wide variety of configurations, including front-wheel-drive models as well as trim packages with a new four-wheel-drive system. A new Eddie Bauer Edition is also available for those who prefer a few more luxury features.

I would NEVER buy this vehicle again. After owning it for only 6 mths, I began noticing problems with the shifting. Since buying this car new in february of 09, I have had to replace the breaks at least 4 times, turned roaders 2 times and replaced them 2 times, break fluid has had to be completely refilled 4 times( 3 of them in past 6 mts). I have had it in the shop for burning something (coolant I was told) out the exhaust and was told by the first Ford Garage that it was leaking coolant into the #4 cylinder. This garage was not able to do the work on the car, so I had to take it to a different Ford Garage who then told me that nothing was wrong with the car. It was smoking all the way to the garage, but when we picked it up it had quit. They garage said they did not do anything to it. The car was out of line when I bought it, and was told to drive a while to be sure, if it was still out of line to bring it back and they would fix it. When I did they refused and said i waited too long. I am working on the 3rd set of tires, and will need new ones shortly in the front. The last set was put on just before christmas and it 4.5 mts ago. Ford refused to do anything about the problems.

Performance-Good exceleration, good braking, excellent handling. Build Quality-Very good, paint scratches easily and grille has bubbles in the chrome. Appearance-Very good, nice fit up inside and out, except as noted in "Build Quality". Cost of Ownership-Gas milage is between 23 MPG and 24 MPG, and maintenance has only been normal tune-ups and oil changes. Ford Quality is evident. Fun Factor-Drives very well and is reliable, comfortable, and practical transportation.

Would have kept car if we didn't commute so far miss the space and utility. Excellent family vehicle always drove when friends went out for dinner seats 6 adults easily ladies more comfortable in rear seats. Very easy to convert to flat cargo load space plus additional space for long materials by folding passenger seat flat!

This is a car that is a great driver, and it has so much room for our family. It sort of looks like a Sport Utility Vehicle but drives more like a car. It gets decent mileage, and the interior is nice to just be in. Overall, we really enjoy it.
