Used 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for Sale near Boston, MA
Incredibly, in the middle of the oil embargo, the Chevy Monte Carlo kept growing in popularity. In 1976, 353,272 Monte Carlos were produced. Chevrolet again played with the grille and head- and taillights, but left much of the exterior the same. Two trims were available: the base S Sport Coupe and Landau Sport Coupe.
More engine options were added for this model year, including the smaller base engine, a 305-cubic-inch V8 rated at 140 horsepower. Optional engines included a 2-barrel 350-ci V8 rated at 145 horsepower, a 4-barrel 350-ci horsepower V8 rated at 160 horsepower (this was the standard engine for California), and a 400-ci V8 rated at 180 horsepower. The 454-ci V8 was dropped from the engine lineup.
4.4 Overall rating
(6 reviews)Performance - Half decent with the 350, better with the 327, good braking ability and excellent handling for '76. Build Quality - Exellent. Well built. Built like a tank. Appearance - Classic Monte Carlo styling with extremely accented fender curves. Cost of Ownership - About 17 MPG. Doesn't require excessive maintenance. Fun Factor - The most fun car to drive of any I own/ have owned.
Cars this size usually don't have much style too them, but the Monte Carlo was a winner for GM up until they tried to reduce the size in 78 to save on gas. The smaller Monte's still have a place in the evolution of Monte Carlo styling, but the 2nd generation to me had it all. For those that owned them will never forget them.
Build quality not exactly what it was prior to the seventies or after the seventies. With a smogged-out 350 you've only got about 170 hp to move over 4000 pounds. The car is a blast to drive, it looks good and gets looks wherever you go. A definite looker.
lot of power to handel rain is no good and my feet fry from the heat the interior needs work and the last owner didn`t know crap and messed you the wireing and..... so a work in progress and with gas prices :(
Canary yellow with white Landau 1/4 vinyl top and interior with black carpet, dashboard and rear parcel deck. It had factory Landau wheels w/ center caps (rubber coated in mag style). there were only 2 in the area of a 20 mile radius, mine and a kid in Mcleansboro, IL.
