Overview

The Toyota Celica celebrated its first birthday in the U.S. in 1972. It was still a very new car, and as such, it was virtually unchanged from the previous year. The 1972 Toyota Celica was available in a single trim in America, the ST coupe. It had a four-cylinder, 2-liter engine.
The 1972 Celica was popular with drivers who liked Toyota's fast-growing reputation for quality, but who also wanted something more exciting than the Corolla. Now, first-generation Celicas have dedicated fans who post pictures of their customized 1970s-era Celicas on a number of web sites.

This was my third car, and what a great car it was! It was peppy, extremely dependable, cheap to drive. Started first turn every time, fun to drive, and a looker back than! White with a black vinyl top. Killed me when I had to sell it. I put over 100,000 miles on it.

I had a 72 Celica my final 2 years of college in upstate New York. It had 2 flaws - it was made of rust and lost its voltage regulator evey few months (salt water leaking from the fender will do that. It was an absolutely dependable vehicle, it was sporty and it had a decent level of equipment. I loved that beast.

I LOVED this car so much that when I sold it off, I missed it and never got over it. Many years later, I bought a second one. It was fun to drive, though a bit short on accessories. It was comfortable for a person of my size. I think a 6' foot person might have had a close call with the roof. Still would go for a third one if I could find it!
