2027 Ram ProMaster City Pricing, Specs, and Release Date

by Kirk Bell

Ram discontinued the ProMaster City after the 2022 model year, leaving a hole in the commercial vehicle market for customers like electricians, plumbers, couriers, handymen, and shuttle services. Now, the ProMaster City is back in cargo van and passenger van varieties. This time, it’s a midsize van instead of a compact. Other brands left the small commercial van market around the same time, so the ProMaster City’s only competitors are larger vans such as the Chevrolet Express, Ford Transit, and Ram’s own ProMaster.

2027 Ram ProMaster City Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2027 Ram ProMaster City

The ProMaster City is an all-new van built on the Stellantis K0 platform, which is also known as the automaker’s Global Midsize Commercial Van platform. That platform is shared with five other brands including Citroen, Peugeot, and Opel. With its larger size, it has more cargo room than the previous ProMaster City. It also gets a new engine, the latest interior technology, and more safety features.

Design

The ProMaster City stretches 210.1 inches long and just under 77 inches tall on a 129-inch wheelbase. The last ProMaster City was only 187.5 inches long on a 122.4-inch wheelbase, and it was 74 inches tall.

The look is rather utilitarian, with black molded bumpers and 17-inch steel wheels. As a van, the ProMaster City is essentially a big box, though with a sloping front end that leads to the boxy cargo area. The headlights are set high and pulled back a bit from the bumper where Ram says they are less likely to be damaged. Between them sits a new, modernized Ram logo. Every ProMaster City will have a passenger-side sliding side door, and window options will include standard glass side windows, glass side windows with grates over them, or metal side panels. Barn-door style rear doors that can open to both 90 and 180 degrees will come standard, and a liftgate will be optional.

Powertrain

Every ProMaster City will have a single engine, a turbocharged and direct-injected 1.6-liter four-cylinder that makes 166 horsepower and 221-pound feet of torque. The power will flow through an Aisin eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel shift paddles to the front wheels, and there will be no all-wheel-drive option. The ProMaster City should be able to tow about 2,000 pounds and haul more than 2,000 pounds of payload.

Interior

Ram will offer the ProMaster City in cargo van and passenger van configurations. Every ProMaster city will have heated front seats with textile upholstery, and a heated steering wheel will be offered. The base cargo van will come with just two front seats, which will leave 167.1 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. That cargo area will be 48 inches wide between the wheelwells, leaving room for 4x8-foot sheets of plywood or sheetrock to fit in back. That will open up to more than 64 inches wide in areas without the wheelwells. The cargo hold will also be almost 54 inches tall and 111.1 inches long. At launch, a tall roof or long-wheelbase version won’t be offered, though those may come.

Passenger versions will be offered with two or three seating rows, as well as an available partition wall. The two-row version will seat five, and the three-row version will seat eight. Cargo space in the five-passenger version is currently estimated at 101.3 cubic feet, and the eight-passenger version is expected to have 44.3 cubic feet of cargo space with 36.2 inches of cargo floor behind the third row. The second and third rows will be removable.

The ProMaster City will certainly be offered with a variety of upfit options to tailor it to different work specifications, but Ram hasn’t announced any of those upfit partnerships yet.

Technology

The ProMaster City will come with a standard 10-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. The latter will run the familiar Uconnect 5 infotainment interface and come with navigation. Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a four-speaker audio system will also be standard.

Safety

The ProMaster City will come with more safety features than previous commercial vans in this class. Those features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, a driver-attention monitor, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, and a rear camera mirror. Front parking sensors will be offered, and the passenger version will have second- and third-row side curtain airbags.

Pricing and Release Date

Ram will build the 2027 ProMaster City in Turkey and import it to North America. The engine will be built in the US. Pricing will be released closer to the van’s release in the first quarter of 2027. However, Ram shared that the ProMaster City will start at less than $40,000.

An available SLT trim will upgrade both cargo and passenger versions of the ProMaster City with body-color bumpers, alloy wheels, fog lamps, a wireless phone charger, and front parking sensors.
