What’s New for the 2025 Subaru Legacy
The Subaru Legacy carries mostly unchanged into its final model year. This practical, affordable midsize sedan has spacious seating for five and comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) and a ton of safety features. The Legacy was last redesigned for the 2020 model year and was refreshed in 2023 with updated styling and more safety features.
Design
This midsize sedan offers spacious and simple accommodations for five. Though the exterior design is on the tame side, the front end adds visual interest with a bold grille and lighting. The trim lineup of Base, Premium, Limited, Sport, and Touring XT models carries over, though there are few visual distinctions among them. Namely, the entry-level model gets 17-inch wheels while the rest get 18-inchers, and the Sport gets a rear spoiler.
Powertrain
The 2025 Subaru Legacy is available with two engines, both of which come standard with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and all-wheel drive (AWD). The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer, rated for 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque, and the optional engine is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder that makes 260 hp and 277 lb-ft. Fuel economy ratings are 27 mpg city, 35 highway, and 30 combined for the base engine and 23 mpg city, 31 highway, and 26 combined for the more powerful engine.

Interior
The 2025 Subaru Legacy seats five on standard cloth upholstery with manually-adjustable front seats. Remote keyless entry and a single USB port also come standard. Options include push-button start, power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and a power moonroof. The trunk provides 15.5 feet of cargo space.
Technology
The 2025 Legacy comes standard with a pair of 7-inch touchscreens, with the infotainment system housed in the top screen and the climate controls and some other settings in the lower screen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The upgraded infotainment system features a tablet-style 11.6-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety
The 2025 Subaru Legacy has not yet been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), but the 2024 ratings will likely carry over. IIHS ratings are mixed, ranging from the top “Good” to the second-highest “Acceptable” to the second-lowest “Marginal.” The NHTSA awarded a five-star overall rating. The Legacy comes standard with forward automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and a head-up display.

Pricing and Release Date
The 2025 Subaru Legacy will be available in late 2024, with production ending in the spring of 2025. As of this writing, Subaru has said that the base MSRP will carry over from the 2024 Legacy lineup, which means a starting price of $24,895 for the base trim and $27,195 for the Premium. The Limited starts at $34,005, the Sport starts at $34,495, and the Touring XT starts at $38,195. These prices do not include the $1,395 destination charge.
