What’s New for the 2025 Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T is overhauled for the 2025 model year, though most of the updates are under the surface. The sleek, distinctive exterior design remains, which is fine, as it’s only five years old anyway. Otherwise, the powertrains are overhauled for more potency and more efficient battery technology, and the truck is now equipped with updated infotainment and more advanced driver-assistance technology.

Design

The Rivian R1T’s exterior design carries over unchanged. It’s smooth, sleek, and sophisticated, with slightly rounded-off corners and bright light bars that are typical of electric vehicle (EV) styling. It’s arguably one of the most distinctive vehicles on the road. For 2025, Rivian introduces the California Dune limited edition, with a sand-colored exterior, dark trim, a unique wheel design, and an exclusive interior.

Powertrain

The Rivian R1T is available with four potent powertrains, with updated battery technology for better efficiency. The base Dual Motor version features a pair of electric motors and a 92.5-kWh battery pack, making 533 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque. This version is rated for a range of 270 miles. The Performance Dual-Motor model also gets two motors and the choice of a 135-kWh or 149-kWh battery pack. Power increases to 665 hp and 829 lb-ft, and range increases to 330 or 420 miles, depending on the battery. The Tri-Motor model boasts a trio of motors and a 135-kWh battery pack, good for 850 hp, 1,103 lb-ft, and a 380-mile range. Finally, the Quad-Motor version gets four motors with the same battery and is estimated for an outrageous 1,025 hp and 1,198 lb-ft. Range estimates aren’t yet available for this model. All-wheel drive (AWD) and a single-speed automatic transmission are standard across the 2025 R1T lineup.

Interior

Rivian is one of the most innovative automakers out there when it comes to creative design and clever use of space. Like before, the redesigned Rivian R1T seats five across its two rows. The cabin is welcoming and spacious, with lots of light and comfortable seats. There are plush materials everywhere for an upscale vibe. The R1T has a 4.5-foot bed, which is small for a pickup truck. However, the frunk can stow 11 cubic feet of gear, and Rivian’s smart Gear Tunnel, which is a lockable compartment concealed in the truck’s body, adds another 11.6 cubic feet of capacity.

Technology

The Rivian R1T gets a new infotainment system as part of its 2025 refresh. The system combines a cleanly integrated, flush-mounted 15.6-inch touchscreen display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. There’s also a 6.8-inch display in the second row. Features include wireless device charging, Amazon Alexa, navigation, and a wi-fi hot spot. Shoppers should note that Rivian does not offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto smartphone integration.

Safety

The 2025 Rivian R1T features a rearview camera, a surround-view camera system, front collision warning, front automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a semi-automated highway driving system. The 2025 Rivian R1T earns the Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), though the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not yet completed testing as of this writing.
