2025 GMC Sierra EV Preview - summary

What’s New for the 2025 GMC Sierra EV

The GMC Sierra EV was introduced for the 2024 model year. For 2025, it swaps out the Denali Edition 1 for the Denali Extended Range and Denali Max Range trims. Other trims, such as Elevation and AT4, are expected to join the lineup later in 2025 or potentially in 2026.

Design

The GMC Sierra EV rides on the electric “skateboard” platform closely shared with the Chevrolet Silverado EV. Compared to the Chevy’s more subdued styling, the Sierra is more in-your-face, complete with massive 24-inch wheels as standard equipment. The Sierra EV combines form and function thanks to its MultiPro mid-gate, which allows the rear wall of the cabin to fold down flat. It expands the bed from 5 feet and 11 inches all the way out to 11 feet. Any color other than Summit White will cost $495. The Moonlight Matte color is a jaw-dropping $3,995 option.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2025 Sierra EV is offered with Extended Range and Max Range battery packs, both charging up dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrains. The dual motors combine to make 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque. This allows for a zero-to-60 time of 4.5 seconds. The Extended Range battery provides up to 390 miles of driving, and the Max Range provides 460 miles, which is terrific for an EV. The Sierra EV can tow up to 10,500 pounds, but doing so will severely hinder range. Thanks to DC fast charging, the battery can gain about 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charging.

Interior

The truck's spacious, five-seat cabin features two front captain’s chairs and a three-passenger rear bench. As it’s only offered in the Denali trim, the Sierra EV comes well-equipped. Standard features include synthetic leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a wall-style power outlet, a panoramic sunroof, remote start, push-button start, and LED ambient cabin lighting.

Technology

In addition to a standard 11-inch digital instrument panel, the GMC Sierra Denali features a large 16.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is set up in a portrait layout and encapsulates many vehicle functions, including some of the climate controls. This truck also comes with five USB ports, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and wireless device charging. A glaring omission from this list is smartphone projection-Apple CarPlay and Android Auto-as GM would like you to log into your favorite apps via its native infotainment system instead.

Safety

The Sierra EV comes with an expansive list of driver-assistance features, including forward and reverse automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control. Other standard features include rain-sensing wipers, a head-up display, traffic-sign recognition, and GM’s Super Cruise partially autonomous highway driving system.
