What’s New for the 2025 BMW 5 Series
The only update for the 2025 model year was the introduction of the new 550e PHEV model. Changes in 2024 were much more substantive, as the car received a complete redesign with new styling, updated engine options, more tech, and new safety features.
Design
While controversial, BMW has gone head-first into its large grille era, which has impacted the new 5-Series’ styling. It features an upright grille, a boxier shape, multiple wheel options, and more. BMW borrowed some styling elements from the new 7-Series, but the 5 features less polarizing styling with less overdone elements than the larger car.
Powertrain
BMW offers two powertrain options for the 2025 5-Series. The base engine is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. A turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine is available, making 375 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. Both engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or all-wheel drive. While the up-level six-cylinder engine is much livelier, the base four-cylinder is more than enough for daily driving and highway commutes.

Interior
The 5-Series seats five people on standard synthetic leather upholstery. Power front seats are also standard, but heated and ventilated seats aren’t standard in the base trim. The front buckets are wide, spacious, and supportive, but the back seat could use more padding and better support. That said, both rows offer ample head and legroom, and adults can ride comfortably in the back. Cargo space is solid, at 17.3 cubic feet in the trunk.
Technology
BMW equips a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, wireless charging, a Harman Kardon sound system, and more. More expensive trims step up to a Bowers and Wilkins stereo, additional USB ports, remote start, and an interior camera system. BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 infotainment system is easier to use than previous iterations, and it offers a long list of desirable features.
Safety
The new 5-Series earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick +, thanks in part to its generous standard features. They include automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, rain-sensing wipers, parking assistance, and more. Adaptive cruise control, hands-free parking assist, a head-up display, and other features are available.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the base 2025 BMW 530i starts at $58,700. Adding all-wheel drive pushes the price to $61,000, and the top 540i xDrive sedan starts at $65,800. All models are available with added-cost options packages.
