The Tonale is Alfa Romeo’s newest vehicle, bringing style and user-friendly tech to the upscale compact SUV world. Now in its second year on sale, the SUV arrives with a stout hybrid powertrain, though its performance isn’t as exciting as its sleek exterior styling suggests.

What’s New for the 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale
Though it’s only in its second year on the market, Alfa made a few significant changes to the Tonale for 2025. Fewer trims are available for the new year, though there’s a new Tributo Italiano model available. The Veloce trim from 2024 becomes an options package. Alfa Romeo also offers a new Intensa trim for 2025, which brings 20-inch black wheels, black exterior trim, Alcantara seats, and three exterior color options.
Design
The Tonale borrows some styling and design elements from the larger Stelvio SUV and packs them into a smaller package. Several colors and wheel designs are available, depending on the trim, but the SUV retains its classic Alfa Romeo styling, with the automaker’s signature grille shape and badging on the exterior. Full LED matrix headlights come standard, and all models get a dual-exit exhaust system.
Powertrain
Alfa equips a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor on the rear axle. The combined output is 285 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque, and the rear motor gives the SUV standard all-wheel-drive (AWD) capability. A six-speed automatic transmission is the only option. While 285 horsepower is nothing to sneeze at, the Tonale’s acceleration isn’t as fierce as expected, with the SUV taking around six seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill.

Interior
The five-seat Tonale comes standard with cloth upholstery, a heated steering wheel, and heated front seats. More expensive trims get genuine leather or Alcantara (synthetic suede) upholstery, and top models get ventilated front seats. Cargo space is just average, with 22.9 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 50.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
Technology
A 10.25-inch touchscreen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster come standard. Other default tech features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, six speakers, navigation, SiriusXM, HD radio, remote start, and more. A Harman Kardon sound system and extra USB ports are available. Since it relies on the Stellantis Uconnect infotainment system, the Tonale benefits from a straightforward interface, simple menus, and snappy, responsive navigation. The SUV also has physical controls for the climate system, making it easier to interact with while driving.
Safety
The Tonale hasn’t been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) yet, but it comes with a generous number of standard driver-assistance features. They include blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and more. A surround-view camera system, parking assistance, and adaptive cruise control are available.

Pricing and Release Date
As of the time of this writing, the 2025 Alfa Romeo Tonale starts at $45,440, which includes a hefty $1,595 destination charge. Pricing climbs to $56,130 for the top trim after destination.
