The Toyota Corolla Cross carries over unchanged for the 2024 model year. This subcompact SUV, which competes against vehicles like the Kia Soul, Subaru Crosstrek, and Mazda CX-30, made its debut as a 2022 model and has seen just an infotainment update since then. This Toyota has good driving dynamics and fuel economy, but many competitors feel more upscale.
Design
If you think most variations of the Toyota Corolla are kind of dull by nature, you’ll see immediately how the Corolla name got slapped onto an SUV and turned into the Corolla Cross. There’s absolutely nothing fancy or even interesting about this vehicle, but that’s exactly the appeal for people who treat automobiles like appliances. It has standard LED headlights, and all trims except the base one get 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, so that’s cool.
Powertrain
Toyota offers the 2024 Corolla Cross with just one engine. It’s a 2.0-liter four-cylinder, rated for 169 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) sends power to the ground, and while front-wheel drive (FWD) comes standard, all-wheel drive (AWD) is available. According to the EPA, the Corolla Cross gets 31 mpg city, 33 highway, and 32 combined with FWD. With AWD, those numbers drop to 29 city, 31 highway, and 30 combined.
Interior
The Toyota Corolla Cross has a basic and functional cabin design. The base L trim features manually adjustable seats with cloth upholstery, though synthetic leather upholstery comes in higher trim levels. Most shoppers should find the front seats reasonably supportive and spacious. In the second row, legroom is limited, and headroom is on the tight side. The cargo area accommodates 26.5 cubic feet of gear, and with the second row folded, that opens up to 66.8 cubic feet.
Technology
The 2024 Corolla Cross comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a six-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth. Toyota offers a 7-inch digital gauge cluster, a JBL premium audio system, wireless device charging, and more USB ports. The infotainment system is responsive and user-friendly, with logical menus.
Safety
The Toyota Corolla Cross does okay in crash-test evaluations. In testing with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Corolla Cross earned the highest “Good” score in four out of the five crash tests administered, and the second-highest rating of “Acceptable” in the fifth test.
In National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) testing, the Corolla Cross earned five out of five stars in side crash testing and four out of five stars in front crash testing.
Standard safety features include forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, rear-seat alert, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Options include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, rear automatic braking, and adaptive headlights.

The 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross is available now. As of this writing, Toyota lists pricing starting at $23,860 for the base Corolla Cross L. In mid-tier LE trim, the Corolla Cross starts at $26,190, and in top-tier XLE trim, it starts at $28,085. The LE trim is likely the best value for most shoppers.
