Carfax is a company that provides vehicle history reports. When you get a Carfax report you will see how many people have owned it, when and for how long. You'll see if it's been involved in any accidents. You'll see if it's had regular maintenance and where the work was done. Repairs will be on there too. You can only get a report on vehicles made 1981 and newer. Carfaxes on vehicles older than 1994 will be spotty before 1994. As far as service and repair records, they can be spotty as well. It all depends on if the service facility reports to Carfax. For example, I bought my 1993 Chevy Caprice new in October of 1993. My purchase shows up but then nothing until January of 2000. That's because the Chevy Dealer where I always took it for maintenance and repairs didn't start reporting to Carfax until January of 2000. A Carfax is a good tool to have when shopping for a preowned vehicle. The newer the vehicle the more detailed the information you'll find on the Carfax. HTH. -Jim
