Starting problems

I have a 1977 F150 with a 351m. I took the battery out and
started to work on the truck. Prior to doing.g this the truck
would start but sometimes I would have to use a screw
driver at the solenoid. I had put a new ignition switch in and
a new solenoid. The only wiring I touched was the
turn,hazard in the steering column, all that was replaced. I
put the battery cables on and the truck wants to turn over
and try to start. Take the cables off and it stops??? What is
going on???

Have you load tested the battery? How old are those battery cables? Test cables for high resistance if battery is deemed good from a load test.

Try lightly tapping on starter with a hammer sounds like the starter drive is stuck in the fly wheel teeth or there is still a problem with the starter solenoid recheck wiring going to solenoid.
